Summary of Position
  • Lead technology architecture (business, data, application, integration, and platform) for healthcare payer organization, ensuring scalable, secure, and compliant systems that support core health plan operations and business strategy.
  • Design and oversee IT system structures, bridging business needs with technical implementation by creating blueprints, selecting technologies, ensuring scalability/security, and guiding development teams to build robust, efficient, and secure solutions that meet strategic goals. Responsibilities include translating requirements, defining standards, troubleshooting issues, managing technical risks, and providing leadership to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Own and evolve the enterprise target-state architecture and multi-year roadmaps, aligning business capability models with application and technology portfolios, investment priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish and run architecture governance (principles, standards, reference architectures, review/exception process) and guide solution designs for major initiatives to ensure reuse, interoperability, and risk-managed delivery. Collaborate with IT & Business leadership and cross-functional IT teams to drive enterprise architecture principles enabling modernization, interoperability, and data-driven decision-making.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture strategy, standards, and roadmaps aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with IT & business leadership to define, review and guide solution architectures for major initiatives and investments.
  • Create technical strategies and blueprints, choosing appropriate technologies (like cloud services or off-the-shelf solutions) to meet business requirements.
  • Create, own & evolve technical documentation and architecture diagrams; participate in design reviews and technical discussions; monitor system performance and infrastructure; and advise senior management on IT strategy.
  • Design systems that are performant, scalable, and resilient to handle growth and increasing user loads.
  • Provide architecture governance and technical leadership across IT teams.
  • Ensure end-to-end alignment across front-, mid-, and back-office systems.
  • Partner directly with delivery teams to guide designs, review code and integrations, and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with various IT and business areas for proof of concepts and evaluation of the enterprise's technologies (including environmental analysis & opportunity identification).
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, project managers, and development teams, explaining complex technical plans in understandable terms; translate abstract business needs into concrete technical specifications.
  • Oversee the implementation and integration of new systems, ensuring they align with overall enterprise architecture and best practices.
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical problems, bottlenecks, and performance issues within existing or new systems.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to development and IT teams.
  • May train, mentor, lead, guide, or manage other staff members or serve as a subject matter expert or escalation point.
  • Research current & emerging technologies and propose changes where needed based on business value and risk.
  • Oversee planning for future technology needs and digital transformation.
  • Select cost-effective solutions and eliminate unnecessary complexity.
  • Identify technical risks, implement security measures, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Define and enforce technical standards, best practices, security protocols, and quality assurance for development.
  • Drive adoption of cloud and modern technologies, integration & data architectures.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed, assigned, or required.

Qualifications
Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field required
  • TOGAF or similar Enterprise Architecture certification required
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) preferred

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • 10 - 12+ years of IT experience, with 5+ years in health payer enterprise or solution architecture required
  • Proven experience in healthcare payer environment (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) required
  • Solid understanding of payer workflows, payer operations, and regulatory requirements required
  • Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, or similar) required
  • Knowledge of Healthcare interoperability standards required
  • Experience with executive communication and stakeholder influence required
  • Experience with modern payer platforms and vendors required
  • Deep understanding of application, data, integration, and infrastructure architectures required
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP), integration patterns and AI required
  • Strong problem-solving skills required
  • Technically creative and open-minded required
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to operate in cross-functional team environments required
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, planning and organizational skills required
