What is a tech executive?

Tech executives are high-level leaders within technology-focused organizations or departments, typically holding titles such as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), or Vice President of Engineering. They are responsible for setting the technological vision, overseeing the development and implementation of tech strategies, and ensuring that technology initiatives align with the company’s overall business goals. Tech executives also manage teams, budgets, and partnerships, and they play a key role in driving innovation and digital transformation within their organizations.

How do tech executives typically collaborate with other departments to drive innovation within an organization?

Tech Executives frequently work cross-functionally with leaders from marketing, operations, finance, and product development to align technology initiatives with overall business goals. They often lead or participate in strategy meetings, encourage open communication among teams, and foster a culture where new ideas are welcomed and evaluated. This collaborative approach helps identify opportunities for digital transformation and ensures that technology investments support company-wide innovation. Tech Executives also mentor technical teams to bridge gaps between technical solutions and business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech Executive, you need deep expertise in technology strategy, business acumen, and leadership, often supported by an advanced degree in computer science or business. Familiarity with enterprise IT systems, cloud platforms, cybersecurity frameworks, and experience with project management tools are typically essential. Exceptional communication, visionary thinking, and the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams set top performers apart. Overview

The Senior Director of Marketing Technology defines, rationalizes, and executes the regional marketing technology architecture and digital customer experience framework to enable corporate revenue growth. This position owns the design, governance, and structural optimization of the enterprise MarTech ecosystem, including corporate CRM platforms, content management systems, customer portals, and automated communication channels. The role is directly accountable for consolidating fragmented systems into a scalable digital platform that optimizes inbound lead capture, automated routing, and accurate multi-touch sales attribution. By partnering with executive leaders across Sales, Customer Care, Data Analytics, and Information Technology, this position establishes a seamless acquisition and retention ecosystem that enhances functional efficiency and margin performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute the long-term marketing technology roadmap to consolidate disparate platforms, minimize technical debt, and ensure scalability and cost efficiency across North American business lines.

  • Govern the architecture of the end-to-end digital customer journey across web properties, landing systems, and automated messaging endpoints to drive transaction conversion rates.

  • Architect and oversee the enterprise inbound lead management pipeline, ensuring automated capture, structural data enrichment, speed-to-lead routing logic, and system integration with downstream sales platforms.

  • Oversee the evolution and structural maintenance of authenticated customer portals to expand digital self-service capabilities, customer personalization, and targeted cross-sell workflows.

  • Direct the evaluation, piloting, and scaled deployment of artificial intelligence applications, chatbot natural language processing, and advanced communication automation tools within the marketing stack.

  • Establish a rigorous data-driven experimentation and testing framework to optimize user experience, messaging hierarchies, and conversion funnels.

  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Care, and Information Technology executive leaders to align cross-functional system infrastructure, compliance parameters, and master data models.

  • Build advanced performance measurement frameworks to track and report multi-channel marketing attribution, pipeline performance, and return on investment for technology acquisitions.

  • Manage direct reports, assign departmental resource allocations, and direct external vendor partnerships and technical consulting relationships.

Candidate Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field OR equivalent years of experience. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of applicable professional experience for each year of college requested.

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or technical field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience within marketing technology, digital operations, or enterprise CRM management required.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading high-performing teams, managing technology vendor integrations, and directing large-scale platform consolidations required.

  • Extensive experience governing complex customer data architectures, lead management workflows, and advanced multi-touch revenue attribution models required.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing automated communication platforms, artificial intelligence service solutions, and conversion optimization programs within high-volume retail or service-based industries preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep technical understanding of enterprise CRM suites, content management platforms, marketing automation networks, and customer data infrastructure models.

  • Advanced financial acumen with a demonstrated capability to track return on investment for complex technology infrastructure deployments.

  • Outstanding communication capabilities with an established executive presence necessary to negotiate and influence goals across separate corporate business lines.

  • Expert analytical capability with a deep understanding of data modeling, digital optimization methodologies, and cross-platform dashboard visualization.

  • Strong leadership capability with a proven track record of managing diverse technical teams and deploying structural process transformations under high-pressure conditions.
