Job description

Knight Automotive Group is a family-owned and family-centric company built on integrity, accountability, and care for one another. For over 17 years, we’ve proudly served our communities by providing end-to-end automotive solutions — from sales and service to fleet and upfitting — all under one roof. Our success starts with our people. We believe in creating an environment where team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow.

At Knight Automotive Group, we live by our Core Values: being accountable and taking great care of each other, always doing the right thing, focusing on our guests with empathy and helpfulness, staying respectful, genuine, and fun (“the sun, not the salt”), and never being satisfied — always striving for improvement and excellence. Together, we’re building a culture that wins through teamwork, continuous growth, and a shared commitment to doing things the right way.

The IT Director is responsible for leading the technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and IT strategy across Knight Automotive Group’s dealerships and divisions. This role will take ownership of the company’s higher-level technology needs while building a strong internal IT function and reducing reliance on outsourced IT providers. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, solutions-oriented leader with strong technical expertise who can manage complex IT systems while developing a secure, reliable, and scalable technology environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage IT infrastructure across multiple dealership locations, including networks, servers, firewalls, wireless systems, phone systems, and cloud environments.
  • Oversee cybersecurity, including endpoint protection, email security, identity and access management, MFA, vulnerability management, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Manage Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, user permissions, security policies, and other company-wide technology platforms.
  • Oversee dealership management systems, CRM tools, OEM integrations, and other dealership-specific technology.
  • Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, VPNs, VLANs, and internet connectivity.
  • Lead technology projects, upgrades, system implementations, and infrastructure needs for new dealerships, acquisitions, and facility expansions.
  • Manage technology vendors, software providers, telecommunications companies, licensing, and IT-related contracts and expenses.
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, security standards, system documentation, and business continuity plans.
  • Lead and support internal IT staff responsible for day-to-day employee support, workstation setup, hardware, software, and other routine technology needs.
  • Partner with company leadership to identify technology solutions that improve productivity, reduce costs, strengthen security, and support future growth.
  • Uphold Knight Automotive Group’s Core Values — accountability, integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement — in all work and decision-making.
What We Offer
  • Competitive and performance-driven pay structure
  • Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off (PTO), holidays, bereavement, maternity/paternity leave
  • Employee discounts on vehicles, parts, and service
  • Paid online and offsite hands-on training for continued professional development
  • Opportunities for career advancement within a growing, family-owned automotive group
  • A supportive, family-oriented culture built on teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in an IT leadership or senior infrastructure role; multi-location experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong expertise in network architecture and administration, including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, VPNs, VLANs, and network security.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, endpoint security, identity and access management, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, Azure, and cloud-based applications.
  • Experience managing servers, networks, telecommunications, and other business-critical IT infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead major technology projects and independently troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Experience managing IT vendors, technology contracts, licensing, budgets, and third-party service providers.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with IT strategy, leadership, and long-term planning.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Automotive dealership technology experience, including Dealertrack, CDK, or similar systems, is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Industry certifications in networking, cybersecurity, Microsoft, Cisco, or related technologies are a plus.
