This role will be based in Mountain View, CA.
LinkedIn is seeking an experienced communications leader to serve as Director of Technology Communications. This role sets and leads the global comms strategy for LinkedIn's technology, spanning the AI, innovation and infrastructure powering the world's largest professional network. This role will also partner closely with the LinkedIn engineering leadership team, leading the external comms platforms for the organization's CTO of Engineering and CTO of Infrastructure. They will turn complex engineering milestones and product breakthroughs into compelling narratives and messages that resonate with external audiences, spanning media, creators, consumers, customers, policymakers, and business leaders.
The ideal candidate has strong technical acumen with the ability to translate complex technology into clear external narratives to drive awareness of LinkedIn as an innovative, AI-first technology brand. They bring sharp judgment, high standards for rigor, and the ability to work closely with partners across engineering, product, global comms, marketing, legal, and strategic finance to ensure narratives and stories are accurate, relevant, and impactful.
This role balances strategy-setting with hands-on leadership of the technology comms team.
Responsibilities:
  • Define the strategy and priorities for technical storytelling rooted in LinkedIn engineering, AI, and product innovation, aligning long-term narratives with timely trend storytelling opportunities.
  • Lead and manage the Technology Communications team, including goal-setting, prioritization, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with a broad range of industry influencers including business and tech trade media, tech creators/influencers, substacks, etc.
  • Oversee and manage content on the core LinkedIn Technology external channels, including the Engineering blog and LinkedIn Showcase page.
  • Oversee engineering blog submissions and tech milestones published by engineers, ensuring rigor, consistency, and alignment with company priorities and corporate narratives.
  • Own the corporate thought leadership platform for LinkedIn's CTO of Engineering and CTO of Infrastructure, shaping narratives, media engagements, and strategic owned content that advance awareness of LinkedIn's tech innovation for the future of work.
  • Coach engineering leaders on their external presence for earned media/emerging media engagements.
  • Partner with engineering, product, global comms, Economic Graph, and legal teams to source, validate, and translate complex technology into clear, credible stories.
  • Establish effective ways of working, decision frameworks, and workflows that enable both speed and accuracy.
  • Build strong partnerships across Comms, including international and market teams, to shape global tech narratives, elevate our engineering spokespeople for relevant local moments, and guide localized storytelling that reflects regional context while maintaining consistency and rigor.
  • Advise senior leaders on tech narratives, messaging, and moments that can shape external conversation.

Qualifications
Basic Experience
  • 11+ years of related PR or external communications experience
  • 7+ years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to craft effective communication strategies and execute them expertly to meet company objectives.
  • Strong strategic instincts paired with sound editorial judgment.
  • Proven track record of partnering extensively with technical teams and other functions on global communication strategies.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to drive alignment with senior executives, both inside and outside the company.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advising senior leaders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in highly matrixed, global environments.
  • Calm, confident leadership style, especially when navigating ambiguity or scrutiny.
  • An excellent leader and people developer who promotes a culture of empowerment and collaboration, while maintaining high standards of performance.

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
The pay range for this role is $180,000 to $282,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
