Urban Legal Recruitment is pleased to partner with our highly regarded client, a leading regional law firm, in the recruitment of an Intellectual Property & Technology Associate to join their Calgary office.


This role is well suited for a lawyer who enjoys a broad, integrated practice, combining intellectual property, technology and corporate commercial work across a wide range of industries and clients.


The ideal candidate will possess the following:


  • 4–8 years of experience in intellectual property, technology, and corporate commercial law within a team-based environment from a national, regional or reputable boutique.
  • Experience with drafting, reviewing, and advising on a variety of technical and commercial agreements, including IP licensing agreements, Saas agreements, distribution agreements and master service agreements
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating joint ownership, development, commercialization, and M&A agreements across a variety of industries, with clients ranging from SMEs to larger public companies
  • Demonstrated experience advising on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, or AI-related matters is considered an asset
  • Experience working with start-ups, emerging companies, and larger corporate clients
  • A strong understanding of the Canadian intellectual property legal framework, including practice and procedure before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office
  • The ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
  • Strong drafting, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Trademark agent designation considered an asset
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
