Job description

Aviation Technology Associates (AVTECH Global) is looking for an Aircraft Upholstery/Sewing Tech.

Pay Rate: $23.32 to $33.81 per hour (depending on experience, location, etc.)

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Contract Duration: 12 months (w/opportunity for extension)

Benefits:

Experience/Education:

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Experience requirement ranges from entry level with experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades is preferred to four (4) years of experience in upholstery to include two (2) years aircraft upholstery experience.

Unique Skills:

  • Valid driver's license may be required.
  • Participation in a DOT/FAA drug and alcohol program may be required.

Purpose:

Fabricates, installs, and/or designs upholstery, cover panels, and makes simple patterns for aircraft interiors using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.

Level I Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical upholstery functions within design, customer, FAA, and aircraft specifications. Specific installation and trim tasks are to be completed in compliance with work order instructions and specifications.
  • Fit panels and windows, cabin head liners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, windows, cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads, fabricate various metal parts, and covering and installation of panels.
  • Create carpet patterns per design drawings and complete installation.
  • Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work.
  • Experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades is preferred.

Level II Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications, fabricate, cover and install flat panels and curtains. May sew simple covers using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.
  • Work with fabric, vinyl and leather hides, composites and other materials using specified adhesives, sewing equipment, hardware, hand tools and various power tools.
  • Cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads and cover/install panels. May be responsible to fabricate various metal parts, fit panels and windows, cabin head liners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, and windows.
  • Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work.
  • Work with lead and higher skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce, cost, cycle time, and man-hours using Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement techniques.
  • Use the material tracking system, Corridor, to create parts demands, track squawks and to sign-off work.
  • Comply with safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Address unsafe conditions before putting others as risk.
  • Experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades.

Level III Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and install seat covers, curtains and various assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Interpret material specifications and design/engineering drawings to ensure finished product meets design and engineering requirements.
  • Sew, fabricate, and install covers for all styles of panels in the aircraft interior while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards and goals.
  • Use the material tracking system, Corridor, to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work.
  • Work with design/drawings to cut and install advanced custom design carpets with unique patterns.
  • Accept lead responsibilities when needed. Oversees projects and coordinates with lead to delegate tasks to assigned technicians.
  • Conduct safety audits and assists team members in doing safety audits.
  • Assist in maintaining shop equipment and associated JSAs.
  • Comply with and champion Safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies and ensure the protection of aircraft interiors (PTP).
  • Mentor and train lesser skilled technicians and monitor their work to ensure they complete assigned tasks in accordance with required levels of safety, quality and productivity.
  • Work with lead and higher skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements reduce material cost, cycle time, and labor hours using lean Six-Sigma tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of upholstery and sewing processes and products and/or advance carpet knowledge including being able to install custom carpets.

Level IV (i.e., Sr) Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and install seat covers, curtains and various assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Interpret material specifications and design/engineering drawings to ensure finished product meets design and engineering requirements.
  • Sew, fabricate, and install covers for all styles of panels in the aircraft interior while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards and goals.

  • Possess a working knowledge of company inspection and process specifications and terminology.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
