Job description

Job Title: Preschool Teacher                                                                        Department: Childcare  

Reports to: Lead Preschool Teacher                                                         Effective Date: March 2025

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday                                     Remote Position: No

Job Summary:

Manage ongoing programming in assigned classroom in a professional and confidential manner and in a way which incorporates the developmental and culturally sensitive philosophy of the Center to ensure the highest quality of care for children, as well as compliance with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards and Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), and Massachusetts health and safety regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain a safe environment and curriculum using Teaching Strategies Gold where children can learn and grow at their own pace, interact comfortably with adults, and have the opportunity to participate in individual and group [small and large] activities that recognize and values diversity of all children and ensure all learners have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Supervise children in play and structured activities.
  • Communicate with parents daily regarding progress of their child, participate in parent activities as appropriate, and work with Lead Teacher in working with families in need of intervention.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in conducting Ages in Stages quarterly assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold tool for children in classroom.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining classroom records as per licensing and NAEYC requirements.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings; maintain Health and Safety, First Aid and CPR certification; complete all required hours of training each year as per DEEC and QRIS guidelines.
  • Develop and follow annual Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
  • Complete Environmental Rating Scales yearly with a classroom action plan.
  • Maintain and update NAEYC classroom portfolios.
  • Maintain EEC Professional Qualifications (PQ) Registry.
  • Maintain student/teacher ratios at all times.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive culture that celebrates diversity and encourages collaboration among staff, children and families.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to relate with co-workers and parents in a cooperative/positive manner to work together towards a common goal, where educators and parents can contribute and feel comfortable
  • Ability to work with families and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Solid computer skills

Education and Experience:

  • DEEC Preschool Teacher certification is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred, or must be enrolled in an Early Childhood Education degree program

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.
  • Run or move quickly to respond to emergency situations
  • Requires good physical stamina and agility
