  1. Assists students with disabilities with academic, behavioral, social and functional growth and development.ย

    2. Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of supporting students' IEPs.ย

    3. Implements instructional programs and lesson plans (e.g. reading, math, language comprehension, writing, computer, etc.) provided by and under the supervision of the assigned teacher for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts.ย

The Special Education Substitute Paraprofessional supports high school students (up through age 22) with disabilities under the direction of a certificated special education teacher by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; following educational and specific behavioral plans; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff; and assisting student by providing for special health care needs. Substitute Paraprofessionals in this classification will receive a variety of assignments including classroom support, one-on-one, etc.ย

Qualifications:
  1. Must hold a valid IL paraprofessional license, substitute license, or teaching license.
    • Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; HS Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro; or HS Diploma or GED and passing scores on the ACT Workkeys.
    • Must be at least 19 years of age.
    • Must have excellent Oral and Written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators and the general public.
    • Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
    • Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  2. Requires employees to have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  3. Must be detail-oriented.
