Johnsburg School District 12 is seeking enthusiastic and qualified individuals to join our team as Substitute Teachers for the 2026-2027 School Year. Whether you're looking for a flexible work schedule, an opportunity to support students, or a rewarding way to give back to your community, we'd love to hear from you! Flexible scheduling with both full-day and partial-day assignments available throughout the school year, with competitive daily pay ranging from $132.20 to $261.44 per day (includes contributions to the Illinois Teachers' Retirement System), depending on the assignment.
Licensing Requirements
Applicants must hold either a Substitute Teaching License or a Short-Term Substitute Teaching License issued by the State of Illinois.
Substitute Teaching License
Option 1
- Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Submit a Substitute Teaching License application through ELIS.
Option 2
- Be actively enrolled in an approved Illinois educator preparation program.
- Have completed at least 90 semester hours of coursework (completed within the most recent semester).
- Transfer coursework may be applied if accepted by the educator preparation program.
- Hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) in pre-completion status within ELIS.
- Submit a Substitute Teaching License application through ELIS.
Important Information
- Valid for substitute teaching in grades PK-22.
- License is valid for 5 years and may be renewed.
- May substitute for up to 90 consecutive paid school days for the same licensed teacher in a school year.
- Individuals holding a Professional Educator License (PEL) may substitute for up to 120 consecutive paid school days for the same licensed teacher.
Short-Term Substitute Teaching License
Applicants must:
- Hold an Associate's degree or higher, or
- Have completed at least 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited college or university (100-level coursework or above).
Important Information
- Valid for substitute teaching in grades PK-22.
- Available for application through June 30, 2028.
- License is valid for 5 years.
- May substitute for up to 5 consecutive paid school days for the same licensed teacher (or up to 15 consecutive days if a State disaster proclamation is in effect).
- Must complete the required school board training program.
- May also serve as a Paraprofessional if otherwise qualified.
