Job Description:

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:

Classroom teachers provide instruction to their assigned classroom or within their specific area of expertise, working with the curriculum designed by the school. They work directly with students, school staff, and administrators to meet the educational goals of the school.

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic K-5 Culinary Arts Teacher to serve as a classroom leader and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in culinary fundamentals. The ideal candidate will bring culinary, nutrition, and health expertise to instructional planning and create a positive, interactive learning environment that inspires students to develop lifelong healthy habits and practical cooking skills. The lessons will teach fundamental skills such as measuring, mixing, and safely using age-appropriate kitchen tools. Our ideal candidate has previous classroom experience.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in culinary arts, nutrition, or a related field
  • Knowledge of food safety and kitchen management practices
  • Bachelor's Degree or Culinary Degree
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with applicable endorsement(s) preferred
  • Criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and be self-directed
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and project management skills

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver standards-based lessons focused on healthy eating habits, basic nutrition, and safe cooking practices
  • Teach K-5 nutrition and health standards
  • Facilitate interactive, hands-on cooking experiences that teach fundamental skills such as measuring, mixing, and food preparation
  • Instruct students in the safe and appropriate use of kitchen tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant kitchen classroom environment
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support growth
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to develop lessons that support classroom teaching in a range of Math, ELA and Science standards
  • Maintaining, monitoring, and reporting students' grades and attendance records
  • Strong classroom management that ensures a safe, orderly, and respectful environment for young learners in a kitchen setting

Family & Community Engagement:

  • Lead an Iron Chef culinary club where students will learn the basics of food safety, meal preparation, how to follow a recipe, and how to prepare a plate of food. "Iron Chef" culminates in a live cooking competition with local judges and students' receipt of their state food handlers' cards.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community members by participating in one site council and leading a culinary arts/ nutrition family night
  • Communicate regularly to support student success and encourage family involvement
  • Collaborate with school staff and community partners to enhance student learning opportunities
