Job description

Security Benefit Academy is searching for an experienced Associate Teacher with proven experience to join our team. This position will be in our home office in Topeka, Kansas. SBA associates are working a four (4) 10-hour workday schedule.

Security Benefit Academy, a premier early childcare and education center in Topeka, Kansas, is hiring for full-time experienced Teachers!


What Does the Job Look Like?
Security Benefit Academy has an opening for a full-time Associate Teacher. This full-time position works four (4) ten-hour days. This individual will be responsible for developing supplementing, and executing an ongoing program of activities that engage children and provide learning experiences within our school age STEM and Fine Arts classrooms, as well as permitting the children to move from vigorous physical activities to quiet activities. The individual chosen must be able to maintain a positive, warm, and encouraging environment that follows all health and safety requirements. The Senior Teacher will work within the entire center, depending on the needs each room has for the day. They must interact with children in a respectful and supportive manner while maintaining a collaborative relationship with parents and other SBA associates.
The individual will establish and maintain a daily schedule, prepare, and follow weekly lesson plans, teach, and implement Conscious Discipline in the classroom, and provide the children with opportunities for age-appropriate outdoor activities.
Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, mentor, and guide camp teachers.
  • Continuously supervise and interact with children, individually and in groups.
  • Carrying out lesson plans established by Classroom Teacher throughout the entire center.
  • When not planning for or teaching in the camp classrooms
  • Cover center rooms when the primary teacher is on PTO.
  • Float the building, giving PC’s breaks.
  • Adhere to all licensing regulations, as well as center policies and procedures.

Who Are You?

  • At least 18 years old.
  • College degree in Early Childhood or related field.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working with children in a licensed child care facility.
  • A respectful and caring mindset toward children.
  • Basic understanding of child growth and development.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability for function effectively as part of a team
  • A positive attitude.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Light to medium lifting required and the ability to keep up with active young children and work inside and outside all year.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office to input data and communicate with parents.
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel children/infants, small objects, controls and to care for the children.
  • Able to repeatedly reach with hands and arms: stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat, climb or crawl.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and in case of an emergency a 50-pound child.
