The following position is available for the 2026 - 2027 school year:


Position: Deaf/Hard of Hearing Special Education Itinerant Teacher/ Coordinator (Grades PreK - 12)

Location: Adams Wells Special Services Cooperative (serving five area school districts)


Position Purpose 

The itinerant teacher/coordinator of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) provides specialized instruction and consultation to students identified with hearing loss in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The DHH itinerant teacher/coordinator ensures students have equitable access to curriculum, instruction, and communication. The DHH itinerant teacher/coordinator supports school teams in creating inclusive, language-rich learning environments that foster academic and social success according to individual students' needs.


Essential Functions 

  • Develop and implement IEPs aligned with each student's unique communication mode, language needs, social-emotional needs, and academic goals.
  • Provide direct, indirect, and consultation services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across various educational settings.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, interpreters, speech-language pathologists, and other service providers to support student access to instruction and participation in school activities.
  • Provide guidance, as needed, to ensure that instructional strategies, materials, and environments are adapted to meet the communication and amplification needs of each student.
  • Coordinate related service needs with outside agencies, interpreters, interveners, organizations, and institutions.
  • Evaluate student performance and progress using formal and informal assessments and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping to report on progress.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot hearing assistive technology (e.g. FM systems, cochlear implant processors, hearing aids) and coordinate necessary repairs, maintenance, ordering of equipment, and inventory records.
  • Maintain documentation and prepare paperwork in accordance with Indiana Article 7 and IDEA Part B regulations.
  • Interpret audiology reports and complete evaluation components in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and professional learning opportunities to maintain compliance and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.


Additional Requirements 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff through conversation and correspondence.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and adhere to scheduling and/or timeline requirements.
  • Ability to travel throughout the day between school sites in Adams and Wells counties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, families, and outside providers.

Qualifications 


Current Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Indiana Teaching License


OR


Hold a bachelor's or master's degree with an Indiana Teaching License in either general education or special education and be willing to obtain the Deaf/ Hard of Hearing License by completing the Indiana State University Pass Project. (at cooperative expense). http://www.passprojectisu.org/index.php/blind-low-vision/visual-impairment-licensure-program
