Job description

At the Director level, Private Client Services should be about more than overseeing compliance. You should have a meaningful voice in the relationships, planning, and growth of the practice.

A leading public accounting and advisory firm is looking to add a Private Client Services Tax Director to work with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, trusts, and estates.

This role is designed for an experienced private client professional who can own sophisticated relationships, lead complex planning, develop teams, and become increasingly involved in growing the practice.

Youโ€™ll advise clients whose financial lives often span closely held businesses, investment partnerships, trusts, estates, real estate, and multigenerational wealth โ€” giving you the opportunity to work across the entire client relationship rather than one piece of it.

Compensation: $190,000โ€“$250,000 base salary + bonus/incentive compensation, depending on experience, market, client relationships, and business development experience.

Responsibilities
  • Own and lead significant high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individual and family relationships
  • Advise clients on complex individual, fiduciary, estate, gift, and closely held business tax matters
  • Lead year-round planning around income taxes, wealth transfer, gifting strategies, trusts, investments, and family business interests
  • Oversee complex individual, trust, estate, gift, partnership, and related compliance engagements
  • Coordinate planning across multiple entities and generations within sophisticated family structures
  • Work directly with attorneys, wealth advisors, investment professionals, bankers, and other outside advisors
  • Translate complex tax matters into practical strategies for clients and their families
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Managers, Seniors, and other members of the PCS practice
  • Lead and develop engagement teams while maintaining accountability for quality, service, and profitability
  • Manage engagement economics, pricing, scope, staffing, realization, and overall client delivery
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing relationships through additional planning, tax, and advisory services
  • Develop new relationships through referrals, centers of influence, and broader business development activity
  • Participate in recruiting, talent development, and strategic initiatives across the Private Client Services practice
  • Work directly with Partners on the continued growth and direction of the practice
  • Build toward Partner-level responsibility through client leadership, revenue growth, and business development
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience
  • Current Tax Director, Senior Tax Manager, Principal, or equivalent private client leadership experience
  • CPA required; MST, JD, or LLM is a plus
  • Significant experience serving high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families
  • Deep technical experience across individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift taxation
  • Strong understanding of partnerships, closely held businesses, investment structures, and other entities commonly held by private clients
  • Significant tax planning and advisory experience beyond annual compliance
  • Proven ability to independently own sophisticated client relationships
  • Experience coordinating with attorneys, wealth advisors, investment professionals, and other outside advisors
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop additional opportunities within existing relationships
  • Experience mentoring Managers and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong executive presence and ability to communicate complex planning strategies to sophisticated clients
  • Business development experience and established referral relationships are highly valued
Why This One Is Worth a Conversation

At many firms, Director means youโ€™re doing Partner-level work without getting Partner-level influence.

This opportunity is designed differently.

Youโ€™ll have meaningful ownership of sophisticated private client relationships, direct involvement in complex planning, and the ability to build your own presence within an established Private Client Services platform.

Rather than spending the next several years simply overseeing more compliance, youโ€™ll have the opportunity to deepen relationships, develop business, influence the practice, and build a clear case for the next level.

If youโ€™ve already proven you can lead the technical work and youโ€™re ready to build beyond it, this is worth a conversation.

All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
