Job description

Join Deloitte's Indirect Tax practice and work on complex state and local indirect tax issues, including sales and use tax and excise tax. As a Tax Consultant, you will help clients address indirect tax challenges through consulting services and technology-enabled solutions as they evaluate tax issues, manage risk, and align tax considerations with business objectives while building your technical skills in one of the largest multistate tax practices in the United States.

Work you'll do

As a Tax Consultant on the Indirect Tax team, you will be responsible for supporting client engagements across a variety of industries.

  • Research state and local indirect tax laws and assist in drafting client memoranda and responses.
  • Support indirect tax consulting projects involving sales and use tax, excise tax, overpayment reviews, transaction analyses, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  • Perform a detailed technical review of state and local indirect tax returns on select engagements. 
  • Assist with engagement management activities, including assigned work oversight, billing support, and proposal development.

Qualifications

Required:

  • LLM in Taxation 
  • Strong academic track record (3.0 cumulative GPA required) 
  • Bar exam eligibility before beginning full-time employment 
  • You must reside within a commutable distance of your assigned office with the ability to commute daily, if required. You can expect to co-locate on average 2-3 times a week with variations based on types of work/projects and client locations 
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve 
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available 
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment 
  • The start date for this position will be Summer 2027

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or taxation
