Job description

Connoisseur Media is looking for a Full-Time Engineer for our North Dallas (Sherman-McKinney, TX) market. The ideal candidate has basic knowledge of, or is willing to learn about, radio broadcast technical systems and equipment to ensure reliable, high-quality audio transmission for our three radio stations - 97.5 KLAK, 93.1 KMKT, and 102.5 KMAD-FM. The ideal candidate works well under pressure, creates solutions, and is a resourceful, diligent, engaged, and creative problem-solver, with not just a “can-do” but a “will-do” attitude. While we seek someone well-versed in, or willingness to learn, broadcast engineering, a candidate’s interpersonal and communication skills, as well as business and personal integrity, are just as important as technical ability.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Compliance with FCC regulations and station policies regarding broadcast standards.
  • Maintenance of safety protocols in all engineering practices.
  • Chief Operator (EAS, Maintenance, and Transmitter Readings log management amp; review).
  • Regular inspection and maintenance of broadcast equipment, including a mix of solid-state and high-power tube transmitters, audio consoles, studio gear, audio automation systems, remote broadcast systems, and other related equipment.
  • Perform hands-on routine preventive maintenance and repairs on all technical systems.
  • Monitor audio quality and signal strength during radio broadcasts and be able to quickly troubleshoot issues, as needed.
  • Under the direction of Corporate IT, complete all necessary procedures and paperwork relating to the market’s computer system and be the local eyes and hands for remote IT Help Desk support.
  • Oversee the installation of new equipment and technologies, including the planning and implementation of upgrades to existing systems.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering and market Operations Manager to manage capital projects and implement corporate initiatives.
  • Maintain minimal downtime of broadcast, audio and computer systems, including emergency repairs, but also planning and advocating for any necessary improvements to all systems.
  • Provide technical support and expertise, as needed, to other departments in planning and executing initiatives.
  • Clear, professional, and productive communication with employees who do not have technical or programming backgrounds, as well as subcontractors and vendors.
  • Develop clear instructions relating to simple tasks for non-technical employees to understand and perform.
  • Maintain an accurate equipment inventory, maintenance logs, and technical schematics. This includes the preparation of reports relating to asset additions/disposals and technical issues and solutions.

Requirements of this position include the following:

  • A minimum of 1-3 years audio engineering, Radio/TV broadcast engineering and/or IT experience.
  • Knowledge of FCC Regulations.
  • Availability to travel to multiple market locations and transmitter sites.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, broadcast automation and centralized audio routing systems.
  • Basic knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, computer networks, STL systems, RF amp; landline, including analog, digital, and IP.
  • A flexible self-manager with the ability to prioritize tasks and shift priorities as needed.
  • This position requires a fully insured personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • The candidate is required to provide a safe driving record covering the past three years.
  • Must be able to develop collaborative and productive relationships with market employees, so market staff can help troubleshoot effectively when the engineer is off-site.
  • On call availability for transmitter, studio, and remote broadcast technical issues, remote alarm calls, emergencies, and be proactive about coverage when unavailable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Military or Post-Secondary electronics training.
  • SBE Certification.
  • Experience with Axia LiveWire routing.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.​
