We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer who will focus on supporting all phases of target maintenance at the Spallation Neutron Source. The Target Systems Maintenance Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance Target Systems equipment and facilities to ensure safe, reliable, predictable, and efficient operations. This scope includes administration and facilitation of the Target systems maintenance program and processes; implementation of corrective, predictive, preventative maintenance and modification work activities; work scheduling; and outage management.

  • Provides long-term evaluation and planning for critical maintenance and obsolescence issues.

  • Serves as the SME for target maintenance activities.

  • Serve as the engineering–maintenance integration lead, acting as the primary point of accountability to align reliability priorities, resolve gaps, and remove execution barriers for the Target Reliability Engineer.

  • Lead operational communication and coordination by ensuring Operations SMEs receive timely planned-maintenance notifications, impacts, and formal return-to-service updates upon completion

  • Enforce and continuously improve work control compliance by setting standards, verifying adherence to required processes, and ensuring hazards are effectively controlled before and during execution.

  • Drive hazard evaluation rigor with SEs/SMEs, ensuring work plans fully capture required scope, controls, prerequisites, and acceptance/return-to-service criteria.

  • Take ownership of work readiness by guiding and supporting planners, schedulers, and area managers to ensure work is properly graded, fully planned, resourced, and execution-ready prior to release.

  • Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote equal opportunity by fostering a respectful workplace – in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.
