PURPOSE

The Mechanic HVAC Specialist, under direction, provides maintenance and preventative maintenance for HVAC equipment including boilers, air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, fans, and air compressors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

HVAC Operations - 60%

  • Operates and maintains the building automation control system for the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS).

  • Assists with locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment, conducting warranty services and quickly performing emergency repairs on certain equipment items.

  • Monitors chemical treatments for condensers, air-handlers, and vertipak systems to ensure chemicals are utilized properly for preventative maintenance and to ensure equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.

  • Operates pneumatic equipment in the installation and repair of mechanical equipment.

  • Assists with the design, installation, maintenance, or repair of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.

  • Monitors and responds to alarms and provides troubleshooting to determine cause of failed components.

  • Assists in the development of a comprehensive energy conversation program. Provides an annual report and annual proposed plan of work.

  • Ensures proper training of personnel with regard to safety and craft development training via online resources, seminars, and workshops.

  • Operate a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites.

Supplies and Work Request Management - 35%

  • Conduct routine inventory audits by implementing standardized procedures for when parts are ordered and utilized by categories to always know what is in stock and what is needed.

  • Analyze historical data and market trends to be able to produce reports on stock purchasing habits and to be able to show how stock will be used.

  • Utilize standardized procedures for attending to and closing out work requests utilizing StarRez application.

  • Implement preventive maintenance for HVAC equipment to include, filter changes, coil cleaning, and system checks.

Other - 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Six (6) years of related experience in HVAC, utility plant operations, and boiler/tower chemical treatment experience.

  • Additional education/experience may be considered as a substitute for the minimum requirements:

    • Associate's degree and four (4) years of related experience in HVAC, utility plant operations, and boiler/tower chemical treatment experience.

    • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience in HVAC, utility plant operations, and boiler/tower chemical treatment experience.

    • Master's degree

  • Knowledge of or experience with repairing various types of equipment.

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to make mathematical computations.

  • Ability to measure accurate distances using a measuring tape or other measuring devices.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Maintain a valid Driver License.

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

SALARY: up to $28.84/hourly.
