What Is a Talent Sourcer?

A talent sourcer works on the talent acquisition team and is responsible for identifying and managing a list of potential candidates that could be hired by a given organization. No matter the career field, when companies need to hire employees, the first challenge is finding the right candidates to interview. As a talent sourcer, it’s your job to create a sourcing strategy that outlines the process of finding, hiring, and retaining talented employees. Other duties include reaching out to candidates through phone, email, and social media, and generating interest in career opportunities. As a talent sourcer, you engage with workers to ensure that their skills meet the ideal qualifications for the job, so that a recruiter can proceed with interviewing and onboarding.

How does a Talent Sourcer typically collaborate with recruiters and hiring managers during the recruitment process?

Talent Sourcers work closely with recruiters and hiring managers to understand the specific requirements of open positions and develop targeted sourcing strategies. They are responsible for proactively identifying and engaging potential candidates, often providing a shortlist of qualified leads for recruiters to contact. Regular communication and feedback are essential, as Sourcers refine their search criteria based on hiring manager input and market trends, ensuring the recruitment pipeline remains strong and aligned with business needs.

What is the average salary for a talent sourcer?

The average salary for a talent sourcer typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Senior or specialized talent sourcers can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $100,000 with additional bonuses or benefits.

What does a talent sourcer do?

A talent sourcer is responsible for identifying and attracting potential candidates for job openings by using methods such as searching databases, social media, and networking. They often evaluate candidate suitability and build talent pipelines to support recruiting efforts. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter, and CRM platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, resilience, and relationship-building skills help Talent Sourcers engage both passive and active candidates effectively. These skills are vital for efficiently identifying and attracting top talent, which directly impacts the organization’s hiring success.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Talent Sourcer can potentially earn $10,000 or more per month through commissions and bonuses by sourcing high-quality candidates for companies. Success in this role depends on strong networking, sourcing skills, and experience, often without requiring a formal degree. High performers in recruiting and talent acquisition can reach this income level with consistent performance.

What is the 70 30 rule in hiring?

The 70/30 rule in hiring suggests that recruiters should spend approximately 70% of their time sourcing and engaging candidates, and 30% on administrative tasks and interviews. For a Talent Sourcer, this emphasizes focusing on proactive candidate outreach and relationship building to fill roles efficiently.
