South Country Co-op is hiring a Human Resources (Talent & Culture) Advisor at our Business Support Centre, in Medicine Hat, AB.ย 

Reporting to the Director of Talent & Culture, the Talent & Culture Advisor plays a key role in attracting, developing, and retaining talent across the organization. This position leads full-cycle recruitment and onboarding initiatives while partnering closely with leaders to support workforce planning, employee engagement, and talent management strategies.ย 

As a trusted advisor, you will provide guidance and support to leaders across both unionized and non-unionized locations on recruitment best practices, collective agreement interpretation, employment legislation, human rights, and organizational policies. You will help foster a positive workplace culture, support employee relations matters, and champion talent initiatives that align with South Country Co-op's values, strategic priorities, and commitment to exceptional employee experiences.ย 

In this role, you will leverage your expertise in talent acquisition, relationship building, and HR best practices to help ensure South Country Co-op continues to attract, engage, and retain top talent while building high-performing and engaged teams across the organization.

What You'll Do

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment activities across the organization, including workforce planning, job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, and offer management for a wide range of positions across the organization.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand staffing needs and develop proactive talent acquisition strategies.ย 
  • Build and maintain talent pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill positions through networking, direct sourcing, social media, referrals, and community partnerships.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to hiring leaders, providing coaching and guidance on recruitment best practices, interviewing techniques, and candidate selection.
  • Manage and optimize the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and recruitment processes to ensure an exceptional candidate experience.
  • Manage and continuously improve recruitment and onboarding programs, processes, systems, and tools.
  • Lead the development, review, benchmarking, and maintenance of job profiles to ensure roles are accurately defined, aligned with organizational needs, and competitive within the market.ย 
  • Conduct job evaluations and market benchmarking to support organizational design, workforce planning, compensation decisions, and role alignment.ย 
  • Integrate competency-based recruitment methodologies into the hiring process, including interview guides, assessment tools, and candidate evaluation criteria.ย 
  • Partner with leaders to provide guidance on job design, competency requirements, and talent assessment strategies to ensure the attraction, selection, and retention of high-performing talent.
  • Develop and maintain recruitment metrics, analyze hiring trends, and provide recommendations to improve talent acquisition effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support and coach leaders through hiring, selection, and onboarding activities.
  • Oversee onboarding programs and partner with leaders to ensure new hires experience a successful transition into the organization.
  • Support relocation, and other talent attraction programs to strengthen recruitment outcomes.

HR Advisory & Employee Relationsย 

  • Provide expert guidance and support to leaders on HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, employment legislation, human rights, and organizational best practices.ย 
  • Interpret collective agreements, Alberta Employment Standards, Canadian Human Rights legislation, and organizational policies to ensure consistent, fair, and compliant practices.ย 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of collective bargaining agreements and applicable legislation, ensuring consistent application across both unionized and non-unionized operations.
  • Respond to HR-related inquiries and provide practical, business-focused solutions that support organizational goals, employee engagement, and workplace effectiveness.

Strategic HR Partnership

  • Support HR programs and initiatives including employee engagement, retention, recognition, training, and total rewards.
  • Analyze HR metrics and recommend improvements to enhance organizational performance.
  • Assist in the optimization of HR systems, programs, and processes.
  • Stay current on market trends and emerging HR practices to support continuous improvement.ย 

Who you are:
You are looking for a career in Human Resources and:ย 

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Human Resources, or a related field; CPHR designation (or in progress) is an assetย 

  • 6-9 years of progressive HR experience in a unionized environment; retail experience is an asset.ย 

  • Experience in full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and employee retention practices and HR advisory services.

  • Experience utilizing HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

  • Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.

  • Experience in job benchmarking, job profile development, competency-based recruitment, talent assessment, and the use of recruitment analytics to support effective workforce planning and hiring decisions.

  • Proven success using a variety of recruitment methods, including direct sourcing, social recruiting, and traditional recruitment channels.

  • Expertise in recruitment strategies, sourcing, and onboarding best practicesย 

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearlyย 

  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and complex situations with professionalism and discretionย 

  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentย 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), including advanced document and spreadsheet developmentย
