What is a T-SQL Developer?

A T-SQL Developer is a software professional who specializes in writing and optimizing Transact-SQL (T-SQL) code for Microsoft SQL Server databases. They design, develop, and maintain database objects such as stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views to support applications and business processes. T-SQL Developers also write complex queries, perform data analysis, and ensure data integrity and performance. They often work closely with database administrators, software developers, and analysts to implement efficient data solutions.

What is the difference between T Sql Developer vs SQL Developer?

AspectT Sql DeveloperSQL Developer
CredentialsTypically requires SQL Server certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer AssociateOften requires Oracle certifications, like Oracle SQL Certified Associate

Job FocusDeveloping, maintaining, and optimizing T-SQL queries and stored proceduresDesigning and developing SQL queries, reports, and database objects in Oracle

The main difference between a T Sql Developer and a SQL Developer lies in the database systems they specialize in. T Sql Developers focus on Microsoft SQL Server, while SQL Developers typically work with Oracle databases. Both roles involve writing SQL queries, optimizing database performance, and maintaining data integrity, but their tools, certifications, and environments differ based on the database platform.

How does a T-SQL Developer typically collaborate with other teams within an organization?

T-SQL Developers frequently work alongside database administrators, software engineers, and business analysts to ensure that data-driven applications are efficient and meet business requirements. They often participate in cross-functional meetings to gather requirements, discuss query optimization, and troubleshoot performance issues. Strong communication skills are valuable, as T-SQL Developers must explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and incorporate feedback from multiple teams to refine database solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a T-SQL Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a T-SQL Developer, you need expertise in Transact-SQL programming, database design, and query optimization, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS/SSRS, and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers translate business needs into efficient database solutions. These skills ensure the development of robust, performant databases that support organizational data integrity and decision-making.

Job Description
We are seeking a motivated SQL Developer with hands-on experience in AWS RDS, SQL performance tuning, and SSIS ETL development to join our growing data engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically curious developer early in their career to work on real-world data pipelines, cloud database infrastructure, and mission-critical reporting systems.
You will play a key role in designing, building, and optimizing data solutions that power business insights, ensure data accuracy, and support scalable applications.

  • Implement best practices for error handling, transactions, and query reusability.
  • Provision, configure, and maintain Amazon RDS instances (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Manage backups, restores, replication, Multi-AZ deployments, and automated snapshots.
  • Monitor performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and RDS Enhanced Monitoring.
  • Apply security best practices: IAM roles, VPC security groups, encryption at rest/transit, and parameter groups.
  • Design, develop, and deploy SSIS packages for ETL/ELT workflows using Visual Studio and SQL Server Data Tools.
  • Implement data validation, error logging, restartability, and package configurations.
  • Migrate legacy DTS/SSIS packages and optimize for performance and reliability.
  • Schedule and monitor SSIS jobs via SQL Server Agent or AWS SSM/Airflow.
  • Collaborate with analysts and developers to design normalized/denormalized schemas and data marts.
  • Participate in code reviews, data architecture discussions, and sprint planning.
  • Assist in large-scale data migrations (on-prem ? cloud, cross-database).
  • Build reusable ETL frameworks for recurring data loads.
  • Support BI teams by creating staging tables, views, and report-ready datasets.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience with:
  • T-SQL (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, dynamic SQL)
  • SQL Server 2016+ (on-prem or RDS)
  • AWS RDS (instance setup, scaling, backups, monitoring)
  • SSIS (control flow, data flow, scripting tasks, deployments)
  • Solid understanding of relational database design, normalization, and indexing strategies.
  • Experience with source control (Git preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication - able to explain technical concepts clearly.
