We are continuously accepting applicationsThe Systems Test Engineer is responsible for validating B-hyve IoT devices, mobile applications (iOS & Android), and firmware through structured Engineering Validation Testing (EVT) and automated test development. This role works closely with application, firmware, and cloud engineering teams to verify that new features, hardware, and system integrations work as designed.This role includes creating, executing, and maintaining both manual and automated test suites, documenting results, reporting defects, and confirming corrective actions prior to Design Validation Testing (DVT) handoff.Essential Job Functions
  • Test new B-hyve IoT products, firmware, and mobile application features on iOS and Android.
  • Build, run, and maintain automated tests for mobile apps, API layers, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems.
  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts (Clojure preferred but any JVM is acceptable Kotlin, Java, etc).
  • Troubleshoot hardware, electrical circuits, firmware, and IoT communication technologies.
  • Construct, maintain, and improve testing fixtures, jigs, and automation rigs.
  • Perform validation testing according to quality plans, product specs, and applicable industry standards.
  • Conduct product failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and corrective action feedback loops.
  • Document test results clearly and accurately; verify defect resolution across firmware, hardware, and app teams.
  • Review test reports for completeness and accuracy; ensure traceability to requirements and test protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language used for automation (Clojure strongly preferred but java, kotlin or other jvm langugaes acceptable; C and python beneficial).
  • Experience designing, writing, and maintaining automated tests (mobile, API, firmware, or hardware-in-the-loop).
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, serial communication, and general IoT connectivity.
  • Understanding of basic electrical circuits, schematics, and wiring.
  • Experience with mobile app testing tools (Xcode, Android Studio, Appium, XCTest, Espresso, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with issue tracking systems (Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.).
  • High attention to detail with a strong quality mindset.
  • Strong communication skills; able to collaborate across firmware, app, cloud, and product teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, signal generators).
Requirements
  • 4-6 years of experience.
  • Associate degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in a technical or QA engineering role, or 3+ years supporting Orbit products.
  • Able to independently design new tests (manual + automated) and lead system level investigations.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician or equivalent demonstrated capability.
