Position Overview

The Systems Operator coordinates plant operations with the Control Room to ensure safe, efficient, and proper operation of cement manufacturing equipment and processes. This role is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining outside plant equipment related to the kiln system, fuel systems, grinding systems, and material handling processes. The Systems Operator supports plant production goals while maintaining strict adherence to safety and operational standards.


What You'll Do

  • Operate and monitor outside plant equipment including coal mills, solid fuel delivery systems, alkali bypass dust pugging operations, dry process kiln systems, clinker coolers, kiln feed blend silos, roller mills, and dust collectors.
  • Coordinate plant activities with the Control Room to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain oil and grease levels on compressors, cement pumps, and related equipment.
  • Clean feed hood and alkali bypass take-off on the dry process kiln daily.
  • Clean roller mill and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintain required safety and equipment checklists prior to and during daily operations.
  • Conduct area equipment inspections and update check sheets throughout shift.
  • Report mechanical, operational, or safety concerns immediately to the Shift Foreman and Control Room.
  • Assist mechanics with maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Learn, understand, and comply with all company and plant safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions and ensure safe operation of all assigned machinery and vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Leads, Foreman, Supervisors, or Management.

What You'll Bring

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of cement plant operations and equipment systems.
  • Demonstrated competency operating kiln systems, raw and finish systems, and fuel systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to recognize unusual operating conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow supervisor instructions, safety rules, operating procedures, and hazard notices.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.


Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a cement producing plant or similar industrial operation required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Systems Operator of a lesser grade required.
  • Demonstrated full competency in executing routinely established tasks with thorough knowledge of plant equipment and machinery.
  • Working knowledge of secondary crushing, raw and finish systems, coke/coal systems, and their relationship to the cement manufacturing process required.
  • Ability to perform the duties of Systems Operator I, II, III, and IV and demonstrate ability to assist Control Room Operators required.


Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to work extended shifts of 8 to 12 hours as required.
