Job description

Role: Senior Systems Engineer

Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)
Job Type: Full Time

Overview
We are a managed IT support company seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Senior Systems Engineer to join the Project Team. This role provides technical strategy and expertise and is responsible for driving and executing IT projects from conception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a broad skill set, including Office 365 and SharePoint migrations, network equipment setup and installation, firewall and VPN configuration, server configurations and installations, Intune deployment, Active Directory (AD) migrations, and cloud migration to Azure.
Responsibilities
• Lead the architecture, design, and technical planning of IT projects, including initial scoping, task breakdown and estimation. Execute projects within the estimated budget.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Project team and clients; foster technical expertise within the team.
• Act as a technical liaison during pre-sales consultations.
• Execute all phases of IT projects, such as but not limited to Office 365, SharePoint, and Azure cloud migrations.
• Lead Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migrations, ensuring secure, accurate, and seamless transitions with minimal disruption to client operations.
• Design and implement new network systems to support client office openings or relocations. Responsibilities include network equipment (firewall, switch, APs, etc) setup and installation, and VPN setup. Following equipment installation, perform basic cable management to ensure a clean and organized network environment.
• Configure and install server hardware and software, maintain detailed documentation, and ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure.
• Implement Intune deployment across client organizations, ensuring devices are properly configured and compliant with corporate policies.
• Perform AD migrations, ensuring accurate replication of user accounts and permissions.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers on the team to ensure project goals and timelines are met.
• Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on work progress, challenges, and project outcomes; participate in project scoping, estimation, planning, and project debrief sessions.
• Attend client status meetings and effectively communicate project and technical details to the appropriate levels.
• Apply and enforce company processes and quality standards across all deliverables.
Qualifications – Required:
• 8+ years of relevant IT experience and working on similar projects.
• Previous experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or IT consulting firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Proven success as a Senior Project Engineer, System Engineer, or in a similar technical role.
• Must be willing and able to travel to client locations as required by project needs, including local, regional, and occasional out-of-state travel.
• Regular use of hand and power tools (e.g., drills, cable testers, screwdrivers) for installing racks, servers, network equipment, and supporting cable management.
• Must be comfortable handling IT hardware and sensitive electronics in various environments.
• Strong expertise in Azure, including cloud migrations and Intune deployments. *Candidates lacking Azure expertise must demonstrate advanced server management skills and may be considered for a lower-level role.
• Hands-on experience with Office 365, SharePoint, and Azure platforms.
• Expertise in server management and network configuration.
• Experience with Intune and AD migration projects.
• Strong ability to perform project estimations and conduct pre-sales discussions with clients, including assessing client needs and providing technical input on proposals and solutions.
• Positive attitude and focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
• Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time and within budget.
• Strong expertise with MSP technology stack, including but not limited to ConnectWise, Kaseya, IT Glue, variety of backup and security solutions.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex technical information into business terms for clients and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Qualifications – Preferred, not required:
• Industry certifications such as ITIL, Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), or Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-100, AZ-104) are a plus.
• IT audit expertise.
