IT Systems Engineer (Contract)

Location: Bellevue, WA (Onsite)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
Contract Position
Position Summary
System One is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer to support enterprise infrastructure operations for an advanced technology organization. This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining physical compute, storage, virtualization, and power infrastructure across a private data center and multiple regional facilities.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with VMware environments, enterprise storage, server hardware, backup systems, and data center operations. This position works closely with networking, cloud, and facilities teams to ensure secure, reliable, and highly available IT infrastructure.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain enterprise data center infrastructure, including rack management, structured cabling, and capacity planning.
  • Support multiple MDF and IDF locations across regional facilities.
  • Perform routine site inspections to ensure infrastructure reliability and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with facilities teams regarding power, cooling, and environmental requirements.
  • Administer UPS systems, PDUs, and monitor power health, battery status, and load balancing.
  • Maintain power circuit documentation, load maps, and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Monitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and airflow.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere/ESXi environments and vCenter.
  • Manage physical server lifecycle including installation, firmware updates, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Troubleshoot server hardware including CPUs, memory, storage controllers, NICs, and disk arrays.
  • Coordinate hardware support and warranty repairs with vendors.
  • Administer SAN, NAS, and enterprise storage solutions including capacity planning and storage replication.
  • Manage snapshots, datastores, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Partner with networking teams on infrastructure upgrades and rack deployments.
  • Participate in change management, maintenance windows, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Maintain infrastructure documentation, asset inventories, and operational runbooks.
  • Support enterprise backup solutions for physical servers, virtual machines, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments.
  • Perform backup validation and routine recovery testing.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of enterprise infrastructure or data center engineering experience.
  • Strong experience administering VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter.
  • Experience supporting enterprise server hardware (HPE preferred).
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS technologies including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and NFS.
  • Experience managing enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Hands-on experience supporting APC UPS systems or equivalent enterprise power infrastructure.
  • Experience with rack installation, structured cabling, and physical data center operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across servers, storage, virtualization, and infrastructure hardware.
  • Ability to rack and install equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • VMware VCP certification or equivalent experience.
  • APC/Schneider Electric certifications or training.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring platforms such as Sunbird.
  • Familiarity with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools.
  • Understanding of ITIL methodologies and formal change management.
  • Experience supporting multi-site enterprise environments.
  • Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Ansible, or Bash.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally across infrastructure, networking, cloud, and application teams.
