Common Search/ComparisonYesNo

Systems Dynamics Modeling focuses on simulating complex systems and understanding their behavior over time, often used in strategic planning. Data Analysts interpret data sets to identify trends and support decision-making. While both roles involve analytical skills, Systems Dynamics Modeling emphasizes system simulation, whereas Data Analysts focus on data interpretation and reporting.

What is Systems Dynamics Modeling?

Systems Dynamics Modeling is a method used to understand and analyze complex systems by simulating how different components interact over time. It uses feedback loops, stocks, and flows to represent real-world processes in areas such as business, engineering, public health, and environmental studies. This approach helps decision-makers predict outcomes, test scenarios, and develop policies by visualizing the dynamic behavior of systems. Systems Dynamics Modeling is often implemented using specialized software and is valuable for tackling problems that involve interdependencies and changing variables.

How does a Systems Dynamics Modeler typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Systems Dynamics Modelers often work closely with subject matter experts, data analysts, and project managers to accurately capture the complexities of organizational or policy systems. Collaboration involves conducting stakeholder interviews, facilitating workshops to define variables and feedback loops, and presenting model results in an accessible way for decision-makers. A key challenge is translating technical insights into actionable recommendations while accommodating diverse perspectives and data limitations. Effective communication and iterative feedback are essential for ensuring the model aligns with real-world processes and supports informed decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Systems Dynamics Modeler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Systems Dynamics Modeler, you need strong analytical skills, a background in systems thinking, and typically a degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency in simulation tools such as Vensim, Stella, or AnyLogic, as well as familiarity with data analysis software, is essential. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills help convey complex models and work effectively with interdisciplinary teams. These competencies are vital for accurately modeling dynamic systems and informing strategic decision-making in complex environments.

Job description

Job Description SummaryAre you ready to see your career take flight? At GE Aerospace, we believe the world works better when it flies. We are a world-leading provider of jet engines, components, and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft. We have a relentless dedication to the future of safe and more sustainable flight and believe in our talented people to make it happen.
The Lead Systems Dynamics Engineer will play a key technical role in the design, analysis, and validation of advanced aerospace systems and components for GE Aerospace programs. In this role, you will develop and apply dynamic models, simulations, and control-focused analyses spanning mechanical, electrical, and thermal domains to support system architecture decisions, requirements definition, and verification activities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, controls, mechanical design, test engineering, and program management to help ensure system performance, stability, and robustness across the full operating envelope.
In this role, you will support product dynamics qualification and analysis activities across the product life cycle, including research, development, verification, qualification, production, and field investigations.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining high-fidelity system-level dynamic models (using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or similar), product/component level dynamic models (using tools such as ANSYS - Workbench and/or Classic), performing transient and steady-state analyses, conducting sensitivity and trade studies, and contributing to requirements allocation and validation for critical dynamic behaviors (e.g., vibration, loads, control interactions, transient response, critical speed and forced response analysis of highspeed rotor designs). This role requires analytical modeling, interpreting the modeling results, performing lab tests and data analysis. You will interpret test data, correlate models to hardware results, and support the development of mitigation strategies for dynamic issues discovered during design, integration, and test.
You will collaborate with more experienced engineers to solve complex engineering problems and contribute to the continuous improvement of modeling methods, processes, and standard work. You will prepare and present clear technical reviews, reports, and design recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers, ensuring that safety, quality, and reliability are integral to all system dynamics decisions. This position requires strong analytical skills, a systems mindset, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment supporting current products and future aerospace technologies.
