Development Manager

Position Overview 

The Development Manager advances the Mission and Vision of Allies by building, fostering, and inspiring excellence in the Agency's ability to: 

Serve as the primary resource for HIV/AIDS support, information, and best practices and protocols in Southwestern PA 

Provide exceptional and compassionate medical care and social support services 

Integrate the voice of consumers with program quality initiatives and services 

Collaborate with and act as a resource for other organizations, providers, and professionals locally and nationally 

Embrace and exhibit the highest ethical standards 

Maximize and monitor fiscal and other resources 

Build an environment which is safe, confidential, and inclusive 

Eliminate the devastating impact of stigma through cultural awareness and advocacy 

The Development Manager supports the organization's fundraising, donor engagement, grant writing, and stewardship efforts. Reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer, this role helps implement a comprehensive development strategy designed to grow contributed revenue, strengthen donor relationships, and advance the organization's mission.

The Development Manager works collaboratively with leadership, program staff, finance, communications, volunteers, board members, and external partners to ensure accurate, compelling, and mission-centered fundraising communications and donor experiences.

Fundraising and Donor Engagement

  • Support implementation of the organization's annual fundraising plan, including individual giving, donor stewardship, special events, and annual campaigns.
  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Prepare donor-facing communications, appeals, and stewardship materials.
  • Contribute to and help implement strategies to retain, upgrade, and re-engage donors.
  • Support donor recognition efforts and ensure timely, meaningful stewardship.

Events and Campaigns

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of fundraising events, donor cultivation activities, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate event-related communications, including: sponsorship materials, host committee solicitations, donor solicitations.
  • Manage timelines and implementation for annual appeals, giving days, peer-to-peer campaigns, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with marketing and communications staff to align fundraising messages across print, digital, email, and social media channels.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with program staff to understand services, outcomes, patient and client needs, and community impact.
  • Work with marketing and communications staff to create compelling, accurate, and donor-centered content.
  • Support board and volunteer engagement in fundraising activities as directed by the Chief External Relations Officer.
  • Represent the organization professionally with donors, funders, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.

Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities 

Demonstrated ability to write clear, persuasive, and donor-centered communications. 

Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or fundraising software. 

Strong project management skills with the ability to manage deadlines, details, and multiple priorities. 

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 

Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse stakeholders. 

Commitment to confidentiality, ethical fundraising practices, and donor-centered stewardship. 

Knowledge of healthcare, human services, HIV services, public health, LGBTQ+ communities, or community-based nonprofit work preferred.


A Bachelor's degree OR relevant work experience with the associated responsibilities is required. Three to five years experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, grant writing, donor relations, communications, or a related field. 


The Development Manager may be called upon to engage in physical activity related to general office work including the capacity to stand or sit for extended periods. Current PA child abuse, PA criminal history, Federal criminal history clearances, and verification of TB test performed within the last year are required within the first 30 days of employment.


Compensation for this position is $68,000/year-$72,000/year. We comply with EEOC.
