Job description

Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking an engineer with 2+ years' experience testing integrated systems to join our Systems Design Department in Groton, CT. Applicants will be responsible for supporting engineering teams during development, integration, and testing of prototype systems in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment. This position offers applicants exposure to all parts of the R&D process, from first-principle analysis through prototyping and testing of integrated systems. By working closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers, applicants will create and execute test plans, collect and analyze data, and help validate prototype system performance against design requirements.
APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. At APS, you will work in a small company environment where technical and administrative excellence are rewarded, and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged. This position will allow applicants to make meaningful contributions to the APS mission.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Establish and execute test procedures for prototype maritime systems
  • Support integration and checkout of multidisciplinary systems including mechanical assemblies, electronics, instrumentation, and software in Pawcatuck, CT and offsite locations
  • Support cross-functional teams to verify and validate design requirements
  • Document test logs, configuration records, and test results
  • Develop, analyze, assemble, and test specialized test beds and prototype systems
Required Skills and Attributes
  • BS in Engineering or related Science, Technology, or Mathematics field
  • 2+ years job-related experience, including internships
  • Ability to work under supervision on engineering tasks, with the intent to take on more responsibilities and work independently
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex design requirements
  • Ability to create and detailed test procedures and document results
  • Ability to work in a hands-on environment with prototype systems and test equipment
  • Ability to clearly express ideas and findings to team members
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Secret security clearance
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Familiarity in data acquisition systems and instrumentation
  • Experience with MIL-STD test procedures and reporting
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as LABVIEW, Python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Background working in rapid prototyping or R&D environments
  • Experience integrating hardware and software systems
  • Basic knowledge of systems engineering and requirements verification methods
