The Systems Engineer 2 provides technical expertise in the management of enterprise infrastructure platforms, including server, storage, and compute environments across public and private cloud and on-premises ecosystems. This role is responsible for testing, analyzing, and supporting infrastructure systems such as virtual and physical servers, storage arrays, operating systems, and supporting platforms.
The Systems Engineer 2 work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

Our Government Contract Requires US Citizenship for this Position.

Location: Louisville, KY (Hybrid: 2 days in office per week)

The Systems Engineer 2 monitors infrastructure performance across server, storage, and compute environments to ensure system stability, availability, and efficiency. This role identifies, diagnoses, and resolves technical issues related to infrastructure failures, capacity constraints, and system integrity. Begins to influence department strategy and makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, often working with minimal direction.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Level 2 Infrastructure Operations teams (Server, Storage, Compute) to gain expertise in tools, platforms, and processes, identifying opportunities to expand Level 1 and Level 1.5 capabilities.
  • Conduct Level 1 health checks during infrastructure incidents and outages, ensuring rapid detection, triage, and escalation of critical system issues.
  • Review and approve changes impacting production infrastructure environments, ensuring compliance with operational standards and minimizing service disruption.
  • Drive Level 1 and Level 1.5 engagement in Problem Management to support root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
  • Support and enhance monitoring and observability across infrastructure platforms to improve Time to Detect (TTD) and Time to Resolve (TTR).
  • Facilitate updates to technical documentation, runbooks, and SOPs to ensure accurate and actionable guidance for ongoing operations and future scalability.
  • Participate in infrastructure implementation and upgrade projects, partnering with cross-functional teams to deploy scalable and supportable solutions.
  • Review and approve operational changes within Level 1 and Level 1.5 support domains.
  • Contribute to operational strategy, platform standardization, and long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies (cloud services, automation, virtualization, AI-driven operations) to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Monitor and report on infrastructure performance metrics, capacity trends, and operational KPIs to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Execute continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, process optimization, and tooling enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 or more years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering or Systems Administration
  • Experience managing and supporting enterprise server, storage, and compute environments (on-prem and/or cloud)
  • Experience with infrastructure platforms such as virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), operating systems (Windows/Linux), storage systems, and compute resources
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., VMware VCP, Microsoft, AWS/Azure, Storage certifications)
  • Experience with automation (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and hybrid environments

This role has a hybrid remote workstyle which may require you to work approximately 2 days a week in the office depending on business needs.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
