This is a hybrid position requiring an on-site presence 3 to 4 days per week. Please note that the number of days on-site can increase based on business needs.
Job Summary:
Under the umbrella of the newly created Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance team, this role will support Sysco's US foodservice companies coast to coast. The role exists to provide transportation safety and regulatory compliance expertise to reduce and control Sysco's exposure to transportation operational risk.
The role aims to accomplish the following:
  • Building a compelling case for change while maintaining excellent relationships with various stakeholders at all levels of management to support transportation safety objectives and a shift in culture. Developing policies, programs, procedures and other tools to support the field safety & fleet and facilities teams to ensure the execution of the transportation safety and compliance goals.
  • Integrating the transportation safety and compliance objectives into the various USFS business segments to ultimately support Sysco's overall business strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design standardized transportation safety policies, training, campaigns and programs to reduce corporate and human capital risk, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Design standardized transportation compliance reports and audit protocols to ensure compliance with federal/state/local laws, driver compliance with company regulations and ensuring FMCSA registrations are maintained.
  • Provide leadership, direction and subject matter expertise for transportation safety and compliance (including driver minimum qualification standards, driver qualification files, DOT drug and alcohol program, transportation safety methods, training courses etc.).
  • Partner and collaborate with all functional leaders to influence and manage transportation safety and compliance resources, projects, and business decisions.
  • Create a network of internal (human resources, talent acquisition, supply chain, finance, legal, corporate claims and analytics) and external alliances (industry partners, State safety groups) to develop and implement transportation safety & compliance policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, and processes
  • Design and execute injury prevention programs/initiatives to motivate and influence the creation of a world class transportation safety culture and minimize injury risk.
  • Analyze and identify trends that increase injury and accident frequency/severity; develop and direct the implementation of training programs using the appropriate media.
  • Support claims programs (workers compensation, motor vehicle, property damage).

Education Required:
  • Associates degree with major course work in EHS, risk management safety/industrial/environmental engineering or a closely related field is required.

Experience Required:
  • 10+ years of Federal and State Department of Transportation (DOT) related experience with large national or multi-national companies with multiple sites. Strong knowledge of applicable OSHA and FMCSA regulatory requirements.

Experience Preferred:
  • Experience with vehicle video telematics solutions is highly preferred.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:
  • The following are highly desirable:
  • Certification specializing in US Department of Transportation regulations. FMCSA certified instructor.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
