About the Opportunity

Our client is a Texas-based Commercial Construction Management firm delivering federal, state, and municipal projects including laboratories, correctional institutions, complex renovations, CMAR delivery, and public-sector facilities. They are a 100% Veteran-Owned, SDVOSB, and Texas HUB-certified firm founded by Navy and Marine veterans. Roughly 75% of the team is veteran. In their fifth year, they tripled revenue year over year.

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager supports the delivery of commercial renovation and public-sector construction projects from preconstruction through closeout and warranty. Works under the direct mentorship of the Director of Operations. Growth seat with a realistic path to Project Manager inside the first year. Work is roughly 75% office and 25% field. Site travel is Monday through Thursday, 5 to 10 nights per month, Texas only. Leadership, communication, and safety are the three non-negotiables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of active and in-warranty projects, primarily commercial renovations.
  • Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and government contract documents.
  • Help build and maintain project schedules in Microsoft Project.
  • Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and prospective change orders.
  • Support subcontractor procurement, buyout, and contract administration.
  • Participate in Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings, with a path to running them.
  • Support project budgets, forecasts, pay applications, and change orders.
  • Maintain compliance with the company's Safety Program and QA/QC Program, and OSHA standards on every site.
  • Travel to active project sites for safety checks, inspections, and meetings.
  • Step in to support Superintendent coverage in the field when needed.

    Required Qualifications

  • Construction Science (COSI) degree, or high school diploma with at least one year as a Superintendent, or three years in a construction trade.
  • Working familiarity with Bluebeam, On Screen Takeoff, and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project). Willing to train the right candidate.
  • Demonstrated trainability and self-motivation.
  • Ability to pass a standard criminal background check. No felonies.
  • Physical capacity to work on active construction sites: lifting, standing, working at heights, weather exposure, full PPE.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • COSI degree with prior Assistant PM or internship experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification. The company will fund the training for the right candidate.
  • OAC meeting experience.
  • Bluebeam Studio or Microsoft Project scheduling exposure.
  • Texas construction experience.
  • Military veterans and transitioning service members strongly encouraged to apply.
