Job description

Position Summary
Responsible for managing the modeling and analysis functions for the Transmission, Distribution or Gas planning area. Supervise the development and maintenance of the Company's planning models, ensuring the models accurately represent the Company's Transmission, Distribution or Gas systems. Supervise the use and maintenance of the Company's models to construct risk-assessed and reliable plans that account for forward looking market, regulatory and policy trends while also supporting environmental emission reductions. Coordinate on the development, maintenance, and documentation of model input data and assumptions to ensure consistent use of data. Review modeling results for accuracy and provide adequate documentation of assumptions, analysis, and decisions. Provide strategic guidance and direction to leadership to improve the overall effectiveness of the team.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, maintenance and use of the Synergi Electric, Synergi Gas or PSSE/PSLF planning models along with other relevant modeling tools and resources used to effectively plan the Transmission, Distribution or Gas system. Ensure that the models accurately represent the current system portfolios and operating profiles. Prepare models for use in identifying capacity needs, analyzing portfolio options and evaluating scenarios on an ongoing basis with speed and accuracy. Complete all analysis as required to meet financial and regulatory needs.

  • Oversee and validate frequent updates to the model input files and operating data. Publish and/or ensure the accuracy of the base models and the data contained in the models. Perform comparison analysis with other models used by the Company and back cast the performance against actual results where feasible. Ensure there is consistency of data used across all operating companies and provide support for rate cases, regulatory filings, and corporate budgeting.

  • Review and validate the model output and analysis ensuring the accuracy of the analysis being completed. Lead the review of modeling analysis, emphasizing the importance of timely and accurate analysis. Coordinate the documentation of decisions and investment analysis, including the assumptions used in the analysis, the options considered, and the results (decisions) that were obtained.

  • Collaborate with peers and other modeling areas to identify and implement model enhancements and innovations. Identify gaps in process or analyses and support continuous improvement efforts.

  • Attract, recruit and retain a highly trained and motivated staff. Establish and communicate clear performance expectations.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business or equivalent.

  • Seven (7) years of direct experience related to the planning, engineering and/or operations and modeling of electric transmission, distribution using the CYME, Synergi Electric and/or PSSE/PSLF models, or equivalent analytical tools.

  • Demonstrated success in a supervisory or lead role overseeing complex technical projects and relationships for a minimum of four (4) years is required.

  • Must be very detail oriented and possess superior written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Business Administration.

  • Previous managerial experience.

  • Power Systems education.
