POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant – Fiscal Compliance & Financial Operations provides accounting, financial reporting, billing, budgeting, and compliance support across the Financial Services Department. This position serves as a flexible resource supporting fiscal compliance activities, financial operations, departmental projects, reporting requirements, and organizational initiatives.

The position works closely with the Fiscal Compliance Supervisor, Senior Staff Accountants, Finance Manager, and departmental leadership to support Human Services programs, Development philanthropy grants, Goodwill Commercial Services contracts, and other assigned funding sources and business units. The position helps ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, compliance with funding requirements, effective financial stewardship, and continuity of operations. This role is intended to provide broad exposure to nonprofit accounting, fiscal compliance, and financial operations while supporting the day-to-day needs of the department.

Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt.

Location: Workforce Development Center - 118 52nd St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201

External Hiring Range: $52,000-$58,000

Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday. Schedule may vary depending on department needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Included but not limited to:

Fiscal Compliance Support:

  • Assist with contract invoicing, reimbursement requests, and financial reporting.
  • Assist with audits, monitoring reviews, and funding agency requests.
  • Support budget preparation, monitoring, funding utilization, and compliance activities.

Financial Operations Support:

  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Assist with financial reporting and accounting activities as assigned.
  • Maintain financial records and supporting documentation.

Financial Analysis and Department Support:

  • Support assigned departments, programs, funding sources, and business units with financial information and reporting needs.
  • Assist with budget-to-actual reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
  • Assist with research, reporting, and management information requests.

Cross-Training and Professional Development:

  • Participate in cross-training activities supporting both Fiscal Compliance and Financial Operations functions.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives, system testing, and reporting enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Years of Experience:

  • Associates degree AND 3+ years of experience OR
  • Bachelors degreeAND 1+ years of experience.

Required:

  • Up to three years of accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred:

  • Internship, public accounting, nonprofit, or governmental accounting experience desirable.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates are expected to complete background checks assigned by Goodwill SWPA, including a National Criminal Background check, prior to their first day of employment.
  • Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.
