What is a Swiss bank?

A Swiss bank is a financial institution based in Switzerland that offers a wide range of banking services, including personal and corporate accounts, wealth management, and investment services. Swiss banks are renowned worldwide for their stability, privacy policies, and strict banking secrecy laws, which have historically attracted international clients seeking confidentiality. While regulations have evolved to increase transparency, Swiss banks remain a popular choice for individuals and businesses looking for secure and discreet banking options.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a Swiss bank, and how can new hires prepare for them?

Working at a Swiss bank often involves navigating strict regulatory requirements and maintaining high standards of confidentiality and compliance. New hires may find it challenging to adapt to the fast-paced and detail-oriented environment, especially when handling sensitive financial information or complex international transactions. To prepare, it's helpful to familiarize yourself with Swiss financial regulations, develop strong analytical skills, and be proactive in seeking guidance from experienced colleagues. Team collaboration is highly valued, so effective communication and a willingness to learn will help you succeed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Swiss Banker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Swiss Banker, you need a solid background in finance or economics, strong analytical abilities, and often a relevant degree or banking certification. Familiarity with financial regulations, wealth management platforms, and client relationship management (CRM) systems is typically required. Discretion, cultural sensitivity, and excellent interpersonal skills distinguish top professionals in this field. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining client trust, ensuring compliance, and delivering high-quality financial services in a competitive international market.

Job description

Do you thrive in an empowering, fast-paced and international environment?ย  Able to build your expertise and grow your responsibilities rapidly in the right setting?ย  We are seeking a motivated, entrepreneurial and energetic professional to join Swiss Re Capital Markets (SRCM) Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) Structuring team as an ILS Structurer at the Assistant Vice President Level, where you'll help bridge the gap between global capital markets and the (re)insurance industry.

About the Role

This role is pivotal in supporting the origination, pricing, structuring, and execution of ILS transactions-including catastrophe bonds-for Swiss Re Capital Markets' diverse portfolio of clients.ย  You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including competing investment banks, risk modelers, rating agencies and legal firms on the placement of new issue securities.ย  You will also actively contribute to the research and innovation related to transferring emerging perils and new structural solutions to the capital markets.

Your main responsibilities will also include:

  • Develop client materials for new transaction opportunities, prepare presentations for investor discussions, and interact directly with the C-suite of prospective clients
  • Analyze and research the exposures of SRCM clients (sovereign nations, corporations, re/insurers and asset managers), and review transaction documentation such as Offering Circulars, Private Placement Memorandums and other similar documents
  • Perform financial analyses using Monte Carlo simulation techniques and cash flow models
  • Travel to client and investor meetings and actively engage in the discussion

About the Team

Swiss Re Capital Markets New York-based ILS structuring team is composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds across investment banking, capital markets, reinsurance and catastrophe modeling. This position will be based in New York, NY and report directly to the Head of ILS Structuring, Americas.

About You

You bring entrepreneurial spirit with high energy and passion and flourish working in a team environment!ย  You have a successful track record managing multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Your professionalism when interacting with C-suite-level clients leaves an excellent impression of you and the company.

Key requirements also include:

  • Bachelor's degree required, with significant emphasis in Mathematics, Finance, Economics or similar analytical background with a strong record of achievement
  • Minimum 3-5 years' re/insurance, catastrophe modeling, actuarial or investment banking experience required
  • Exposure to the catastrophe bond, ILS market or reinsurance placement process required
  • Outstanding written and verbal English required, including excellent grammar, spelling and attention to detail in presentation materials
  • Existing securities industry licensing (i.e. FINRA SIE, 7, 63, 79) preferred, or capable of acquiring licenses within 60-days of employment

About Swiss Re Capital Markets

Swiss Re Capital Markets (SRCM) is a leading boutique investment bank, acting as broker-dealer in the structuring, placement and secondary trading of ILS in the capital markets. ILS includes catastrophe bonds, sidecars, synthetic solutions and many other securitization and derivative products. SRCM provides risk hedging and financing needs to a variety of clients, including re/insurers, governments and corporations, with expertise in both the property & casualty and life and health sectors. Risks transferred in ILS transactions can range from natural disasters and pandemic diseases all the way to cyber risk or terror events.

Our company uses a hybrid work model requiring at least three days in the office each week, with the option to work onsite full-time if preferred.ย  This position is not eligible for full-time telework or visa sponsorship.

ย

We are looking forward to your application!

The estimated base salary range for this position is $132,000 to $198,000. ย The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. ย At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
