Job Title: Swine Production Trainee
Location: Rock Valley, IA
Reports To: Swine Production Manager
Classification: Full-Time
Position Objective
To develop foundational skills and industry knowledge necessary to support and grow the swine feed business. The trainee will assist in production activities, learn barn management practices, and build relationships with producers while contributing to the cooperative's goals and customer service objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development:
- Participate in structured on-the-job training related to swine production, feed programs, and barn management
- Develop knowledge of swine health practices and production systems
Operational Support:
- Assist with daily barn walkthroughs to monitor pig health and facility conditions
- Support grading of weaners/feeders and identifying pigs ready for market
Customer & Business Support:
- Assist team members in supporting swine producers
- Learn feed programs and their impact on producer profitability
Teamwork & Communication:
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
- Report livestock health, safety, or facility concerns
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Associate's degree or coursework in Animal Science or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered
- Strong interest in swine production
- Ability to learn quickly and follow direction
- Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office preferred)
Physical Demands
- Regularly use hands and perform manual tasks
- Frequently walk and work in livestock environments
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
