Job description

Surveyor
Department: Survey
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Compensation: $39.50 - $49.25 / hour
Description
Are you looking for a career where you can work in a positive working environment and achieve better employee relations? Are you flexible, proactive, easy to approach, like 'figuring things out' and have a sense of humor? If so, you've come to the right place! We take the traditional surveying and mapping approach while utilizing the most up to date surveying tools and sensors to convert field data to model the earth's surface to another level by applying innovative ideas to give our maps more dimension.
Wood Rodgers, a leading engineering consulting firm, is hiring a Surveyor to join our Survey Department. We are seeking someone that enjoys various tasks associated with land surveying and mapping, such as ALTA Surveys, Records of Survey, Parcel Maps, Final Maps, plats and exhibits, legal descriptions, easement documents, and Construction Staking setup for a wide range of public and private projects and clients.
This is staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.
A day in the life as a Wood Rodgers' Surveyor
  • Prepare detailed drawings from sketches, plans, specifications, and written and verbal instructions using civil, survey and computer aided drafting programs (i.e., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Interpret field notes and sketches.
  • Perform various computations including closure, precision, and calculations for surveys, plats, easements, etc.
  • Use software to assist in production of detailed topographic surveys utilizing data collected from conventional and GPS surveys, terrestrial and aerial LiDAR.
  • Prepare ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Record of Surveys, Parcel Maps, Final Maps, and other various survey related documents.
  • Prepare legal descriptions and exhibits for parcel and easement acquisition.
  • Compile land title information from title reports and records research.
  • Pre-calculate survey data pertaining to construction surveys.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong knowledge of boundary and legal principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, especially for construction staking.
  • Experience with ESRI Geographic Information System (GIS) is a plus.
  • Prior project experience in land development is preferred.

A note on hourly pay ranges
The range does not reflect geographic variations and may fluctuate above or below the stated amount. Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location. Base pay is just one part of the comprehensive compensation package offered by Wood Rodgers. If you feel you meet the requirements but may be outside of the pay range, please apply anyway and let's talk through it.
How we elevate your game
Joining Wood Rodgers comes with perks to support you in your personal and professional journey.
  • A Unique Culture: An engineering firm that doesn't feel like one. We are inventors that ask, "why not?" with leadership that empowers employees to grow, challenge convention, and develop creative solutions. We throw big parties, get random days off, and constantly are shown how the company reinvests in our employees rather than corporate bottom-lines. These all help build a great culture, but at the core are great people; people who want to learn, teach, help, and collaborate.
  • Teamwork: experience what being a part of the Wood Rodgers family feels like. Be inspired by your leaders, be encouraged and cheered on by your teammates to live a big life, personally and professionally while you work with us.
