Job description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist with compounding and preparing medication orders, maintaining drug inventory control and distributing medications throughout the Ridgeview system while working in a highly automated pharmacy environment.

Job Functions

  1. Assist pharmacist with medication filling and distribution of completed orders to inpatients.
  2. Orders, labels, counts and records stock of medications (both controlled substances, Rx and OTC), chemicals, and supplies.
  3. Restock and troubleshoot automated dispensing devices including the Carousel, Robot, PacMed and AcuDoses.
  4. Compound or repackage medications including, but not limited to, sterile IV's preparations, Chemotherapy, topical creams, and pediatric oral syringes.
  5. Delivers medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients, nursing stations and surgery.
  6. Prepares clinic orders, restocks crash cart medication trays and other emergency boxes as needed.
  7. Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  8. Answers telephones and responds to questions or requests.
  9. Help in training of newly hired pharmacy technicians and volunteers in the pharmacy.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency solving math ratios and other equations
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Pharmacy Technician experience in a hospital
  • National certification

License/Certifications

  • Current Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern Licensure within 12 months of hire.

Schedule

  • This position is a rotating day/evening position.
  • You will be scheduled every third weekend
