Position Purpose:
Clinical Manager assists in providing clinical leadership for department services through collaborations with employees, other departments and services, and customers in planning, directing, and evaluating of patient care of the Diagnostic Cardiology, Cardiac Rehab and Cardiothoracic departments. Management responsibilities include staff development and education, quality assessment and improvement, policies and procedures, performance evaluation, Kronos, and inter-department communications. Collaborates with key leaders within the Cardiovascular Service Line.
What You Will Do:
Reports to: Director of Cardiovascular Service Line Supervises: Diagnostic Cardiology, Cardiac Rehab, Cardiac Surgery (Cardiothoracic) Department Staff Key Working Relationships: Mercy Heart Center Manager, Diagnostic Cardiology Clinical Leader, Cardiac Rehab Clinical Leader, Cardiothoracic Nurse Coordinator, Director of Cardiac Step Down Unit, physicians, resident, fellows and inter- and intra network departments Primary Customer Groups: patients, families, physicians, residents, and fellows Age of Patients Served: Neonatal, Adolescent, Geriatric, Pediatric, Adult, and all ages
Develops an annual operational plan (including scope of service) integrated with Mercy's Strategic plan and related departments operational plans in order to efficiently provide services.
Monitors and analyzes ongoing performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans.
Develops, implements and periodically reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa policies, The Joint Commission requirements and federal and state regulations. Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation and advises leadership when pertinent.
Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan detailing appropriate employee classifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuity (for patient care areas) and other relevant indicators. Participates in annual human resource planning process providing recommendations for staffing proactive recruitment and long-term needs.
Assures daily staffing adheres to plan. Participates in the recruitment, selection, interviewing and hiring of employees in the department in compliance with state and federal laws.
Assures employees are appropriately oriented, patient population, policies and procedures through a competency-based orientation process.
Continuously assesses and improves the department's performance based on, but not limited to the department's quality plan monitors, process improvement initiatives, patient/associate satisfaction data and associate safety and injury prevention.
Maintains high levels of employee engagement in areas of responsibility. Works with each employee to clarify the outcomes that are expected and coaches toward success. Guide's others in continuous learning and growth and best fit in the organization. Regularly recognizes others for the contributions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of school of professional nursing.
Current RN licensure in state of Iowa
Must have a BSN degree or BS degree in related field or willing to obtain in 5 years
A minimum of 5 years' experience in cardiology
Previous experience in supervisory position required.
Team leading, Clinical Lead/charge or supervisor position
Active participation and continued personal and professional growth.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes
Competent in computer applications, ie: excel, word.
Minimum of 1-year experience in LEAN process improvement preferred.
Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.
Able to set and organize own work priorities. High degree of initiative and judgment.
Able to involve in multiple projects simultaneously and succeed under an environment of competing priorities.
Ability to work flexible hours and modify workload as needed.
Must have demonstrated competence in ACLS by obtaining certification.
