Job description

Job Title: Tax Operations AssociateRole Overview

The Tax Operations Associate supports the tax team by managing the preparation, assembly, and delivery of tax returns. This role focuses on ensuring accuracy, meeting deadlines, and maintaining smooth workflow throughout the tax return process.


Key ResponsibilitiesTax Return Preparation & Filing
  • Assemble and organize federal, state, and local tax returns (individuals, businesses, trusts)

  • Prepare returns for review, e-filing, and final delivery

  • Manage e-filing, track acknowledgements, and resolve any rejections or errors

Workflow & Operations Support
  • Support the full tax return lifecycle from data collection to final submission

  • Track deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks

  • Maintain checklists and follow standardized processes

Systems & Tools
  • Use Thomson Reuters tax software (UltraTax CS, Practice CS, Onvio, etc.)

  • Manage documents and maintain accurate system records

  • Troubleshoot basic issues and escalate when needed

Quality Control & Compliance
  • Perform accuracy and completeness checks before submission

  • Ensure all returns meet internal standards and compliance requirements

  • Maintain organized documentation and workpapers

Coordination & Support
  • Work with tax professionals to gather missing information

  • Assist in secure delivery of returns to clients

  • Respond to internal and client queries related to tax operations


Required Skills
  • Good understanding of tax return processes and filing

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of experience in tax operations or support roles

  • Mandatory experience with Thomson Reuters software, including Practice CS, UltraTax, and SurePrep

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Experience with tax forms (1040, 1065, 1120, 1041)

  • Experience in a CPA firm or professional services environment
