Intermediate Software Developer - Developer Experience and Release Engineering Team - Ottawa

March Networks is proud to be recognized as one of Ottawa's Best Places to Work.

March Networks is an established global leader in the video surveillance industry and works with the world's largest retailers and banking institutions. Our goal is to create a positive working environment where all of our employees can thrive. When you join our team, you'll enjoy flexibility and support for a healthy work-life balance, as well as the professional development opportunities needed to advance your career. At March Networks, we value your hard work, creativity and your passionate desire to deliver only the best to our customers, partners and each other.

Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Intermediate Software Developer to join our global Developer Experience and Release Engineering team. In this role, you will modernize and optimize the developer experience across our build and release ecosystem, while managing the release lifecycle for our flagship suite of applications. This role focuses on evolving our legacy Jenkins-based build environments into a scalable, hybrid CI/CD ecosystem spanning on-premise and cloud infrastructure, improving artifact management, integrating with modern software lifecycle tools, and ensuring smooth, well-governed release processes for major and maintenance updates.

You will support our global R&D teams, who develop cloud and on-premise software solutions across Windows, Linux, and mobile platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Build Modernization

oย ย  Support development teams as they migrate from Bitbucket Server and legacy Windows and Linux Jenkins build machines to GitHub and GitHub Actions on hosted and self-hosted runners, ensuring minimal disruption.

oย ย  Improve artifact storage and retrieval processes.

oย ย  Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform.

oย ย  Monitor performance, optimize costs, and automate everything that can be automated.

Release Management

oย ย  Coordinate with development, QA, and product teams to ensure timely and high-quality releases for a suite of applications:

oย ย  Major releases: 2-3 times per year.

oย ย  Maintenance releases and hotfixes: As needed.

oย ย  Improve release governance, workflows and documentation, automating as much as possible.

oย ย  Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.

Software Lifecycle Tool Management

oย ย  Tools include IDEs, AI developer tools (e.g. MCP-based integrations), issue tracking, code quality, static and dynamic security scanning, software composition analysis, artifact management, multi-cloud VM lifecycle management.

oย ย  Administer and maintain tools.ย

oย ย  Connect CI/CD pipelines with tools.

oย ย  Provide business-hours support to the development teams.ย  Typical requests cover build failures, access requests and general tool-related questions.

oย ย  Stay current with cloud technologies and recommend improvements to architecture and tooling.

Required Skills & Experience

oย ย  3-5 years of experience in Developer Experience, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or related roles.

oย ย  Experience with GitHub Actions, GitHub migration and Git workflows.

oย ย  Experience with CI/CD across hybrid environments: on-premise Jenkins (Linux/Windows agents), GitHub Actions (hosted runners for Android/iOS; self-hosted runners on AWS EKS).

oย ย  Familiarity with mixed Linux/Windows self-hosted runner architectures

oย ย  Expertise in containerization (Docker).

oย ย  Experience with Kubernetes, ArgoCD and Helm.

oย ย  Experience with hybrid VM lifecycle/provisioning tools (e.g. HPE Morpheus) spanning AWS and on-premise infrastructure.

oย ย  Experience with AWS IAM management - users, groups, roles, policies.

oย ย  Familiarity with software lifecycle tools.

oย ย  Hands-on experience with release management processes for multi-application environments.

oย ย  Understanding of CI/CD best practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible).

oย ย  Scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash).

oย ย  Comfortable using AI to write software.

  • College or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering program, or equivalent.

Nice-to-Have

oย ย  Exposure to or interest in building out on-premise self-hosted runner infrastructure (Linux/Windows) is an asset.

  • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect).

Soft Skills

oย ย  Strong organizational and planning skills for managing multiple priorities.

oย ย  Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

oย ย  Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Enthusiasm and a problem-solving attitude.
  • Independent and willing to take initiative.
  • With a continuous improvement mindset, you enjoy finding innovative solutions to complex problems.

Why Work at March Networks?
