Job Summary/Basic Function
The University Supervisor of Student Teachers is a professional whose concern is to see that every successful student teacher is ready to be a first-year teacher. The supervisor must seek evidence that the student possesses the disposition, knowledge, and the performance characteristics expected of a teacher education student in the Shepherd University program.
The University Supervisor if Student Teachers shall:
(1) develop and maintain a professional working relationship among cooperating teachers, school administrators, school staff, and students; (2) observe the performance by the students and give guidance designed to make him/her more effective; (3) confer with the student and cooperating teacher on topics pertinent to the student's performance; (4) assist the student and cooperating teacher regarding problems that may arise during the practicum period (5) assign and submit a grade for student teaching no later than two days after the last day scheduled for student teaching.
This role is part-time and the load of student teachers varies by semester.
Availability during public school operation hours (usually 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m., varies depending on location) is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years experience as a certified teacher in the content area for which they would be supervising.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in education with a minimum of 3 years experience as a certified teacher in the content area for which they would be supervising.
