Basic Function
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of advanced support duties that require a thorough knowledge of a function or functions of the Howard University Science and Emergency Cultural Efficacy (HUSECE). This position is responsible for monitoring the grant budget and executing payments consistent with the grant priorities. The position requires a high degree of independence with general direction and supervision received from the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
The candidate might have the responsibility or authority to direct students or temporary workers. Might interact with faculty and staff on a one-on-one basis to complete technical tasks related to several grant activities. Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, and staff. External contacts may include vendors, consultants, and the general public
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Engineering to facilitate receiving books and other materials in conjunction with the university bookstore. • Identify qualified students, pull their STEM schedules, and help buy books to relieve the cost of completing the final year of study.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Serve as the main contact for student services related to all grant activities. • Conduct a verification of enrollment with the School of Education and the School of Engineering for students who will be participating in the textbook purchase program. • Lastly, work with the Dept. of Curriculum and Instruction to coordinate the annual Black Men in Education convening" (BME)conference taking place in Philadelphia, Pa. • Process all paperwork for travel, complete spend authorization forms, book hotel, and complete the registration process. He will also serve as a chaperone for the BME trip.
Participate in meetings and conferences pertinent to the area of responsibility. Prioritizes and arranges meetings, conferences, and appointments for the unit administrator; makes necessary travel reservations and itineraries; determines and prepares background material needed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Advanced knowledge of office and administrative practices and principles. Skill in the operation of computers, related software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Knowledge and skill in budgeting procedures and techniques. Ability to problem solve and make decisions. Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population. The ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED and 2-4 years of general work experience. AA/AS may be substituted for 4 years of required work experience. BA/BS may be substituted for up to 4 years of work experience.
