Job description

SMS is looking for a Facilities Summer Student, Labourer to support day-to-day facilities operations at our Acheson location. Reporting to the Manager, Facilities & Projects, this role is responsible for a variety of general labour and maintenance tasks around the building and surrounding property, contributing to a safe, clean, and well-maintained work environment.
 
Work Location: Acheson, AB.
Salary: $20 to $25 per hour.
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site – working from the facility each day.
Schedule: Monday to Friday - Full-time throughout the summer, with possible night and weekend shifts available during the school year.
 
What You’ll Do:
  • Perform general maintenance of the building, facilities, parking lots, and yard areas.
  • Complete tasks such as general building and yard clean-up, painting, furniture moves, office relocations, and minor repairs.
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians as required and follow assigned facilities tickets from start to finish.
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal stakeholders and external contractors or vendors as needed.
  • Work safely at all times, demonstrating strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and perform other duties as required.
What You Bring:
The successful candidate is preferably currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and brings a strong safety mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Other requirements include:
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks daily, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience using basic hand tools (asset).
  • Knowledge or interest in building maintenance (asset).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and SharePoint (asset).
