The Summer Pool Lead is a seasonal position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the YMCA aquatic facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for members and guests. This role provides leadership to lifeguards and aquatic staff, ensures compliance with all safety regulations, and supports the Aquatics Director in maintaining high operational and safety standards. The Pool Supervisor also assists in staff scheduling, training, and facility maintenance to promote a positive and engaging aquatic experience.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise and coordinate daily pool operations, ensuring lifeguard coverage, safety, and
    efficiency.
  • Oversee pool facility maintenance, including water chemistry, cleanliness, and equipment
    functionality.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with YMCA, local, and national aquatic
    standards.
  • Lead and support aquatic staff, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.
  • Respond to and manage emergency situations, assisting lifeguards and ensuring proper incident documentation.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, payroll tracking, and operational planning to maintain efficient
    workflow.
  • Work with the Aquatics Director to implement and enhance programs, special events, and facility
    improvements.
  • Ensure positive member and guest experiences, addressing concerns and fostering an inclusive
    environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of pool maintenance, incidents, and operational reports.
  • Promote and uphold the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Summer seasonal positions typically work from May through September.

Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years old at the time of application and have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a lifeguard or relevant leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of water safety, risk management, and pool maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of pool equipment, water chemistry, and facility operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage staff and address
    concerns.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate lifeguards and aquatic team members.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and maintain positive
    interactions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and
    holidays.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to ensure compliance with YMCA and reg.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience with YMCA or similar organization
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a leadership/ supervisor or similar position
  • Current lifeguard certifications.
  • Current professional level CPR and first aid certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Work in both indoor and outdoor pool environments, with exposure to varying temperatures,
    humidity, and weather conditions.
  • Physically active role requiring standing, walking, swimming, and supervising staff for extended
    periods.
  • Frequent exposure to chlorinated water, pool chemicals, and noise from patrons and aquatic
    activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and assist in pool maintenance tasks.
  • Requires constant attentiveness and quick decision-making to ensure pool safety and facility
    efficiency.
  • Work schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on facility
    needs.
