Function/Position Summary
This paid summer internship provides recent U-46 high school graduates the opportunity to collaborate with the U-46 Community Team to design and support a pilot model for school-based mental health services. Interns will contribute to research, student engagement, and program design efforts focused on increasing access to mental health supports and reducing barriers for students while building leadership and career skills.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the U-46 Community Team to research and design a mental health pilot
  • Gather and analyze student voice and feedback on mental health needs
  • Conduct interviews with school principals to support implementation of plans
  • Identify gaps in current services and access
  • Support the development of student-informed strategies
  • Design communication materials and outreach strategies
  • Create multimedia content to promote mental health supports
  • Participate in community engagement efforts
  • Assist with pilot planning and preparation
  • Contribute to a final presentation or report

Education
  • Recent graduate of a U-46 high school (Class of 2025 or 2026)
  • Interest in mental health, psychology, education, public health, or related fields

Experience/Knowledge
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Google Drive
  • Experience in social media, website, and content management
  • Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Bilingual oral and/or written skills (English/Spanish) is a plus

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work on a computer for a major portion of the day
  • Ability to carry up to 20 pounds of equipment

Terms of Employment
  • This is a temporary, paid position with potential for continuation throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
  • This internship is limited to 70 hours paid at $15.00 per hour paid by U-46, between 6/1/26 - 8/7/26, limited to no more than 15 hours per week.
  • Must work on-site at School District U-46 Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin, 1019 E. Chicago St., Elgin, and at timeswithin our 90-square-mile district.
