The Georgia Department of Defense is seeking an Office Manager to join our highly successful Peach State STARBASE (PSS) program. Peach State STARBASE (PSS) is headquartered at the Clay National Guard Center in Marietta, Georgia, serves as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) adjunctive academy, primarily to at-risk students in the north Atlanta metro area, through both elementary and middle school curricula centering on aerospace engineering. PSS hosts up to 600 students (and growing) during the school year, and approximately 50 day campers during the summer months.
The purpose of this position is to provide primary secretarial/clerical support to support all operations of PSS, including administrative, logistical, and technical support activities. This position also is required to teach 5th grade students as an assistant program instructor and must be willing and able to be trained to present all PSS lessons. It is the public face of STARBASE and the central point of contact for all external communications and participate in pre- and post-meetings with all schools.
THIS POSITION WORKS YEAR ROUND AND DOES NOT FOLLOW A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL SCHEDULE.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains a database for previous Academy students and a database of all current students
Maintains a yearly Academy calendar
Ensures all forms and printed materials for each academy are prepared in time.
Schedules and attends pre-meetings with schools, and act as primary contact for all schools.
Submits purchase requests to State purchasing agents, and track, receive, and distribute all supplies.
Helps Lead Teacher set-up classroom and instructional tools
Assists other instructors as needed in the classroom and instructs 5th grade level classes in all STARBASE topics from prepared lesson plans.
Establishes and maintains records for each participation school and classroom.
Preference will be given to those applicants that meet the minimum qualifications and also possess:
Bachelor's degree (any major)
Experience in school administration and/or classroom training
Prior military service
Possess a Georgia teaching certification, or a teaching certification in a STEM field, and/or experience with primary/early childhood/middle school education.
Experience with Microsoft Suite, CAD Engineering, Flight Simulation & other curricular related software.
The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a Georgia and national criminal records search, a pre-employment drug test (post-hire will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program) AND a post-employment federal background investigation.
