Overviewย 
The Summer Promise program is comprised of students grades 1-12 who receive daily instruction in core subject areas and provides enrichment activities. The Program Assistant supports the lead classroom teacher in implementing the daily lesson plans and group activities. The person in the role must embody Peter Paulโ€™s values and share a passion for the mission by overseeing a high quality, safe experience for all students. All Peter Paul employees are expected to maintain high expectations for self, colleagues, students and families and must maintain a professional, ethical and responsible attitude to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere. ย 
Primary Responsibilitiesย 
  • Support the program with implementation of daily lesson plans and group activitiesย 
  • Encourage group thinking, curiosity and discoveryย 
  • Assist in the implementation of Peter Paul's daily expectations and behavior systemย 
  • Commitment to total classroom engagementย 
  • Participate in staff meetings and serve on planning and special events committeesย 
  • Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth to acquire knowledge of current best practicesย 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned ย 
Qualificationsย 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or currently enrolled in college coursesย 
  • Experience working with school age studentsย 
  • Strong classroom management and organization skillsย 
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skillsย 
  • Understanding of and familiarity working in an urban settingย 
Preferred Qualificationsย 
  • Experience working in the Virginia Standards of Learningย 
  • Subject matter expertise in science, technology, engineering, art or mathย 
Position Schedule
This is a part-time, hourly position that is expected to work starting June 15, 2026 through August 7, 2026. The Summer program hours of operation are between 8am-4pm Monday-Friday.
