Job description

Genesee Community Charter Schools is seeking applications for teaching positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Teachers work in a co-teaching, looping model with two lead teachers and a teaching assistant in an inclusive setting. At GCCS, teachers engage in an arts integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to planning and teaching. All core subject areas are taught through the lens of local history and science topics using the GCCS curriculum framework.

  • Entering Salary Range (based on certifications and experience): $43,000 - $60,000
  • Classroom Teacher Qualifications
    •  Bachelor in Elementary Education required; Master preferred ●
    •  New York State Teacher Certification required 
    •  Elementary education experience in project-based learning environment preferred
    • Strong academic background in early childhood education, reading, social sciences, math and/or science
    • Strong desire to teach in a demanding, child-centered program with students from diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to take risks, collaborate, work flexibly, and demonstrate initiative 
    •  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Classroom Teacher Job Description:
    •  Reports to the School Director 
    •  Collaborate with teaching team (co-teacher and teaching assistant) on all classroom decisions
    • Write curriculum using GCCS curriculum framework, New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, and the EL Education design 
    •  Teach all core subject areas with our progressive, project-based educational philosophy in an inclusive setting 
    •  Knowledge of skills in a wide range of pedagogies 
    •  Plan and lead purposeful day and/or overnight field studies related to the curriculum
    • Manage students using Responsive Classroom and Restorative Practices
    • Work as part of a professional community that is continually reflecting, learning, and improving
    • Attend on and off-site professional development 
    •  Write progress reports 3 times per year
    • Hold parent teacher conferences as needed as well as on selected school-wide days 
    •  Plan and attend Exhibition Night 3 times per year
    • Attend school evening or weekend events several times per year
    • Adhere to GCCS policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook, staff bulletins, and other documents
    • This position is a 10-month salary position. In addition, all staff are expected to attend 3 weeks of mandatory professional development each August for additional compensation.
