Introduction:
The Office of Information Technology at Duke University is seeking a Data Analytics Fellow to join our team. This 12-month program is available exclusively to 2026 graduates of Duke University's Masters in Interdisciplinary Data Science (MIDS). If you are passionate about addressing challenging issues in higher education using data science and educational data mining techniques, we would like to talk to you about this role.
Minimum Requirements:
This is a 12-month program is currently only available for 2026 MIDS graduates of Duke University.
• Masters in Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
• Proficiency with data analysis in Python or R, and SQL.
• Experience with creating dashboards or other data visualizations within analytics platforms.
• Understanding of different data formatting (JSON, CSV, Parquet) and data storage models (Data Lake, Star Schema).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with git.
• Experience with relational databases.
• Proficiency with Tableau, Power BI, and other Business Intelligence platforms.
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Open Shift).
• Experience contributing in an Agile team environment.
Other Requirements:
• Passion for turning data into actionable insights.
• Curiosity for discovering and learning new tools and technologies.
• Technical expertise in data exploration and visualization.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an agile environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
This position is:
Hybrid. The position allows hybrid work (approximately twice per month) or in-person work at our Durham, NC location, with occasional travel (approximately once per month) to other institutions in North Carolina.

Essential Job Duties:
• Coordinate and participate in collecting, interpreting, documenting, and summarizing data to support research and information gathering activities.
• Filter and clean data, review reports, logs, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
• Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to identify trends and insights in historical data.
• Design reports using tools such as statistics, graphs, images, and lists to help stakeholders easily interpret the data. Communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide interpretation and recommendations to decision-makers, ensuring stakeholders understand nuances in analyses and limitations of methodologies.
