Job description

High School Performing Arts Teacher
A full-time, competitively paid teaching position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys.
Boys' Latin of Philadelphia seeks a High School Performing Arts Teacher charged with developing our young performers, fostering within them, an appreciation and understanding of the broad influences and contexts of theater and performance. informed thinkers, connectors, consumers, and historians. The teacher will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons that engage students in acting, directing, choreography, and set design. The teacher will lead students in studying the history of the theater as well as exploring all aspects of theater design, including lighting, costumes, marketing, and budgeting. The teacher will promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting academic and artistic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning and character development. In class, students will build a base of physical, vocal, and character elements with which to act independently and with others. Students will have opportunities to showcase their talents.
The teacher will perform the following duties:
  • Plan, develop, and deliver a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned with PA Common Core standards and best practices.
  • Assess students regularly and use data to drive instruction as well as to provide remediation and enrichment based on individual student need and ability.
  • Communicate students' progress toward realizing academic goals, partnering with parents and school personnel to provide instructional and emotional support and resources.
  • Build a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe.
  • Commit to the school's extended day structure, serving students outside of the regular school day, and teaching in the Saturday School and summer academy programs.
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities as part of the school's award-winning Leadership Academy.
  • Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys' Latin mission.

The teacher will demonstrate the following competencies:
