About This Role

St. John’s Lutheran Church invites applicants for the full-time position of Preschool Lead Teacher of our Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). This position reports directly to the Director of the ECEC. St. John's Lutheran ECEC is a small, well-established center operating for 40 years. The total enrollment of the center is 50 children.


This position serves as the lead teacher in the 2-, 3-, or 4-yr old classroom (classroom ratio differs by age level but approximately 1:10). Plans curriculum implementation while mentoring teaching assistants and floaters and guiding students through daily schedule. Communicates with parents on student activities and general learning milestones. This is a year-round position as we offer summer camp for our students.


What You'll Do
  • Reflect the love of Jesus through words and actions, relating joyfully and sensitively to children.
  • Maintain positive relationships among children, staff, parents, congregation, and community.
  • Champion the mission and vision of SJLC and ECEC to our staff, children, and families.
  • Create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for all staff, children, and parents by serving as first point of contact in the ECEC office.
  • Develop effective lesson plans that correlate to our curriculum, goals, and objectives.
  • Foster a positive and structured classroom environment that engages students and motivates them to succeed.
  • Cultivate communication and relationships with parents through; parent-teacher conferences, classroom communications, and other school functions.
  • Serve as a mentor and example to other staff.
  • Continue to grow professionally through training, workshops, continuing education, and other opportunities.

Requirements
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Special Education. If degree is in a different major, must have earned at least 36 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Special Education. Alternatively, a state public school certification to teach children aged birth to 8 years will be accepted.
  • Active membership in a Christian congregation or willingness to join.
  • Enthusiastic supporter of SJLC’s Lutheran identity and Christian mission.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with SJLC and ECEC staff, board members, and families.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate students in play based educational setting.
  • Passionate for Early Childhood Education and clear understanding of child development, emotional intelligence, and social development.
  • Proficiency with commonly used office computer applications and technology.
  • Cooperative and able to work in a team setting.
  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and needs.

Established in 1983, St. John's Lutheran Church's Early Childhood Education Center is a non-profit, private preschool center. We provide high quality, affordable, year-round, full-day program serving 50 students, ages 2-5. The center is financially sound, has an 18-member staff, and is supported by a Board of Operations and the Senior Pastor. Our mission is to learn and grow together through Christ-centered childcare.
